Krel sharks represented a species of shark inhabiting the planet of Eiram. The legend says that the deity known as Krel underwent a transformation, becoming these sharks. At approximately 397 BBY, Phan-tu Zenn, who would later become the heir to Eiram, found himself surrounded by krel sharks in Eiram's oceans during his youth, yet they caused him no harm.
The krel sharks were a shark species exhibiting a blueish-gray coloration, originating from the oceans surrounding the planet Eiram. Throughout each year, there were unfortunate instances of individuals being lost to these sharks within Eiram's oceanic environments. Notably, they possessed tusks located beneath their lower jaws, a characteristic attributed, according to local legends, to the Eirami deity Krel transforming into these creatures over the passage of time.

Around the year 397 BBY, Phan-tu Zenn, a young boy native to Eiram, was swept away into the sea due to a monsoon. During this ordeal, he was encircled by krel sharks, but they did not inflict any harm upon him. Eventually, Zenn survived this experience and was subsequently adopted into Eiram's royal family.
In 382 BBY, Xiri A'lbaran, the designated successor to the throne of E'ronoh, experienced a crash landing in an Eiram ocean. Zenn then swam out in an attempt to rescue her, moving swiftly through the water like a krel shark. Later, Zenn shared a concise version of the sharks' origins and recounted his personal encounter with them to Axel Greylark, a human and the son of Supreme Chancellor Kyong Greylark; A'lbaran, to whom he was now betrothed; and the Jedi Knight Gella Nattai. His initial narration was sparked by Zenn's metaphorical assurance to A'lbaran that he would rather be devoured alive by wild krel sharks than retract his promise to marry her.
Later that same year, during a celebration of peace between Eiram and E'ronoh, which had previously been warring, a sizable Eirami transport with a color scheme reminiscent of a krel shark flew in formation alongside an E'roni cruiser.
The initial mention of krel sharks occurred in the 2022 novel titled Convergence, authored by Zoraida Córdova. This novel was a contribution to Phase II of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
