Phan-tu Zenn

During the High Republic Era, Phan-tu Zenn was a male human and the designated successor of the Eiram royal family. In 382 BBY, his mother reigned as the queen of the planet Eiram. In that same year, after a serendipitous meeting, he and Princess Xiri A'lbaran from E'ronoh decided to marry, hoping to foster peace between their worlds, which had been engaged in war for a period of five years. However, the Battle of Jedha shattered this peace, compelling them to confront the repercussions. Following a diplomatic mission to engage with the Path of the Open Hand cult on Dalna that escalated into a major conflict against them and the Jedi, he and A'lbaran successfully fled the planet and the battle. Subsequently, with the assistance of Supreme Chancellor Orlen Mollo, they united their planets against the Path, shifting the momentum of the battle in favor of the Jedi, and simultaneously establishing a lasting peace for their respective worlds.

Biography

Early life

Around 407 BBY, Phan-tu was born into humble circumstances on Eiram, a planet situated in the Outer Rim. They resided in the Rayes Canal region of Erasmus Capital City, an area particularly vulnerable to inundation. During a particularly devastating flood, Phan-tu and his family were washed away into the ocean, with Phan-tu emerging as the sole survivor. Subsequently, the boy was discovered and adopted into the Eiram royal family by Queen Adrialla, who was unable to conceive children with her wife, Queen Consort Odelia. Consequently, Phan-tu was designated as the heir to Eiram's throne. In 387 BBY, Eiram and its sister planet E'ronoh initiated a five-year war that resulted in substantial death and destruction on both sides.

Peace negotiations with E'ronoh

The summit aboard the Paxion

In 382 BBY, a temporary cessation of hostilities was brokered between the two planets by Princess Xiri A'lbaran of E'ronoh. The purpose was to provide both planets with time to receive assistance; E'ronoh was awaiting a shipment of ice, while Eiram had requested medical supplies from the Galactic Republic. However, complications arose during the delivery of these shipments, leading to a clash between E'roni and Eirami forces, during which Princess Xiri experienced a crash-landing on Eiram, near the Rayes Canal. Phan-tu witnessed the incident and promptly intervened, diving into the water to rescue Xiri from the wreckage of her starfighter, employing her ceremonial bane blade to free her. However, after Phan-tu brought her ashore, she attacked him, holding the dagger to his throat before attempting to harm herself when Eirami guards approached. Phan-tu successfully persuaded her to surrender by promising her an audience with Queen Adrialla. During this audience, Adrialla played a message from Xiri's father, Monarch A'lbaran, who threatened to obliterate Eiram if his daughter was not returned. She also played another message from Chancellor Orlen Mollo, who had arrived in the system with the Jedi tasked with delivering Eiram's medical supplies. Mollo aimed to facilitate a lasting peace between Eiram and E'ronoh and invited Adrialla aboard his flagship, the Paxion, to engage in negotiations with A'lbaran. Xiri agreed to accompany the Eirami to these negotiations, and they departed for the Paxion that night, marking Phan-tu's inaugural journey off-world.

The initial days of negotiations yielded limited progress, with E'ronoh's hardline Viceroy Ferrol inciting A'lbaran to make several accusations against Adrialla. During this period, Phan-tu cultivated a positive rapport with Xiri, engaging in sparring sessions with her and the Jedi Knight Gella Nattai, who was part of the Republic delegation. Subsequently, Mollo and the Jedi screened footage depicting the suffering of ordinary citizens on both Eiram and E'ronoh throughout the ship, aiming to motivate the delegations to compromise. The following day, Xiri proposed that she and Phan-tu should be wed, an idea initially met with resistance from both Adrialla and A'lbaran, although Phan-tu and Xiri were able to privately persuade their parents to agree. That night, Phan-tu discovered the deceased body of the E'roni captain Jerrod Segaru in his quarters, a discovery that served as a reminder that forces were actively attempting to undermine the peace process, with Xiri suspecting Ferrol's involvement. At that moment, they were joined by Axel Greylark, the son of Chancellor Kyong Greylark, who had been dispatched by his mother to represent her interests in the negotiations.

Touring E'ronoh

Both parties traveled to E'ronoh's capital, the Rook, to attend Captain Segaru's funeral. Following the ceremony, Phan-tu and the Eirami were pelted with stones by an extremist pro-war group known as the Children of E'ronoh, who were protesting their presence on the planet. It was decided that, while the monarchs would remain at the Rook, Phan-tu and Xiri, accompanied by Nattai and Greylark, would embark on a tour of the world to distribute aid, gain favor, and potentially expose the disruptors who were actively working against efforts to achieve peace.

Traveling aboard the royal sail barge, the Amaryliss, the group visited various locations across the desert planet, including Barakat Outpost, A'ranni, and U'ronoh. Throughout the trip, Phan-tu and Xiri grew closer, united by their shared vision for peace and mutual respect. They also developed positive relationships with Nattai and Greylark, with Phan-tu and the latter forming a surprising friendship. At Barakat, Xiri won a duel with a disgruntled miner, while at A'ranni the group helped resolve a skirmish between E'roni and Eirami soldiers who were unaware of the ceasefire. There, Phan-tu fell into a cave system, briefly separating him from the group. While making his way back to the surface, he became covered in thylefire scorpions, creatures of significance to the E'roni people. His emergence, covered in scorpions, caused astonishment among the surrendered E'roni soldiers.

At U'ronoh, the group's final stop, they discovered that the villagers had been taken hostage by the Children of E'ronoh, led by Viceroy Ferrol's son, Rev. Phan-tu and Xiri surrendered themselves to secure the villagers' release and were taken aboard a shuttle programmed to crash into the Rook. Fortunately, Nattai and Greylark were able to sneak aboard the shuttle; Nattai confronted the Children and Rev, while Greylark overrode the autopilot. The group then jumped from the shuttle and parachuted to the village, where a celebration was held that night. Upon their return to the Rook, Viceroy Ferrol was taken into custody, but another attempt on Xiri's life by a Kage girl named Abda highlighted the presence of another party, separate from the Children, working to sabotage the peace. Before Abda could be properly interrogated, she was poisoned to prevent her from speaking. Phan-tu and Xiri proceeded with the wedding and completed the first part of the ceremony before returning to Eiram for the second part.

A royal wedding

Greylark and Nattai investigated the assassination attempt by pursuing a lead on Hesperys Station. Upon their return to Eiram, allegedly with evidence linking Viceroy Ferrol to the plot, Phan-tu requested Greylark to take him to Arium Island, the location of a secret Eirami research facility. Phan-tu believed the poison used on Abda was similar to that of the Eirami blue scorpion and wanted to investigate the facility, which had been attempting to produce poison for use in the war with E'ronoh. Adrialla had informed Phan-tu that she had shut down the program, but upon arrival, they discovered that the facility was still operational, albeit in the process of destroying samples. While there, Phan-tu and Greylark were attacked by escaped blue scorpions, with Greylark saving Phan-tu's life by shielding him from a sting. The Prince brought his friend back to Erasmus Capital City, where Eirami doctors stabilized and cured him. Meanwhile, Phan-tu confronted his mother about the program. Adrialla claimed that she had only done so to expedite the end of the war and had been coerced by someone known as the Mother, the leader of the extremist Force cult, the Path of the Open Hand, who had offered Eiram aid. Their conversation was overheard by Xiri, who argued that the facility should remain operational, as both Eiram and E'ronoh would need a failsafe in case new enemies emerged, and the Republic was not always available to provide assistance.

A few days later, Phan-tu and Xiri were married by Chancellor Mollo. However, the ceremony was marred by Greylark's actions, who had been working for the Path of the Open Hand all along. Nattai uncovered Greylark's treachery after finding his quarters empty, except for the dead body of Viceroy Ferrol and Greylark's damaged therapy droid, QN-1. She rebuilt the droid and discovered numerous holorecordings detailing his communications with the Mother. Although she attempted to capture him, Nattai could not prevent him from destroying the towers that maintained the dome protecting Erasmus Capital City from flooding. Greylark had also left a tracking beacon in the wedding venue, attracting droves of bounty hunters seeking to capture him and claim the bounty placed on his head by an old associate he had wronged. While the other Jedi fought the bounty hunters to prevent them from entering the venue, Phan-tu and Xiri urged Mollo to proceed with the ceremony, and the Chancellor declared them married. As Xiri shot down a bounty hunter who broke through, Phan-tu professed his love for her.

With fighting engulfing the capital, matters were exacerbated by the flooding in the Rayes Canal area due to the dome's destruction. Meanwhile, the Children of E'ronoh, led by Rev Ferrol, appeared in E'roni drill ships, tearing through the Paxion and causing it to crash into the ocean. While Xiri went to confront these newcomers, Phan-tu mounted an agopie and raced to the Rayes Canal, personally overseeing the evacuation of the district that had once been his home. Eventually, the Jedi repelled the bounty hunters, Xiri defeated and killed Rev Ferrol, and Nattai captured Greylark. With calm restored, the Eirami and E'roni delegations convened to determine where the peace would be officially signed, and it was decided that the summit would take place on the holy moon of Jedha, a neutral site.
