Leevan Tenza, a man of few words and a Sabat male, served in the Alliance to Restore the Republic under the command of General Jan Dodonna. In the year 5 BBY, he found himself in Alliance custody after he went against orders and prematurely attacked an Imperial target. Instead of facing a court-martial, he escaped and allied himself with Saw Gerrera's group of Partisans.
Tenza adapted well to the Partisans' lifestyle and proved to be a valuable asset, especially when wielding his DH-447 sniper rifle. By 1 BBY, he was stationed at the Partisans' base situated on the moon Jedha, where a number of captured Alliance operatives were being held. The Partisans were subsequently compelled to evacuate when their base was obliterated by the shockwave resulting from the Destruction of Jedha City carried out by the Empire's Death Star superweapon.
In the year 5 BBY, Leevan Tenza, a warrior of the Sabat species, was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, specifically within General Jan Dodonna's team, known as the Massassi Group. During this time, Tenza defied direct orders by launching an attack on an Imperial objective ahead of schedule. Consequently, the Alliance placed the Sabat under arrest for his insubordination. Rather than face a court-martial, he broke free from rebel confinement to join the Partisans, a group led by the freedom fighter Saw Gerrera. Tenza distinguished himself by joining the Partisans, and he was not the only one who had abandoned the Alliance, even though his reasons differed from most who had chosen a more radical path in their resistance against the Empire.
Later in 5 BBY, Tenza and the Partisans found themselves stationed at a base located on the planet Segra Milo. Tenza was present at the base while the rebel Luthen Rael engaged in conversation with Gerrera inside.
In 1 BBY, Tenza was among the Partisans stationed with Gerrera within the Catacombs of Cadera on the moon Jedha. Shortly after a group of Alliance agents were captured in Jedha City and imprisoned in the catacombs, Tenza was quietly enjoying a "homemade" version of dejarik on a table in proximity to the cells where the prisoners were being held. After one of the three human Partisans sitting at the table with him rolled a set of dice, Tenza threw his hands up in the air and shouted as the others celebrated.
Afterward, he relocated to another section of the catacombs and stood at a terminal as the Alliance agent Jyn Erso was escorted through the area on her way to meet with Gerrera. The Partisans were then compelled to evacuate the catacombs and flee as the structure was decimated by the blast wave resulting from the Empire's destruction of Jedha City through the use of the Death Star superweapon. While some Partisans managed to escape with their lives, others, including Gerrera, perished in the explosion. At some point an artist mentioned Tenza in his journal, including a depiction of the Partisan as an example of the Sabat species.
Leevan Tenza was a laconic and defiant individual who embraced his guilt rather than proclaiming his innocence when the Alliance arrested him for disobeying an order. He adapted more readily to the more casual organization of the Partisans and proved to be a particularly effective member, especially when employing his DH-447 sniper rifle. His inherent terseness was tested when he realized that the blast wave from the Death Star's attack was headed toward the catacombs. He had pink skin and gray hair.

While within the catacombs, Tenza wore a light brown jacket over a dark brown shirt, complemented by a black and red kama and brown pants. He also sported black and red fingerless gloves, black boots, and an assortment of brown bandoliers and belts filled with ammunition. He often chewed on a toothpick while engaged in dejarik and carried a DH-447 sniper rifle equipped with a supercollimator barrel. Tenza also piloted a T-65B X-wing starfighter for the Partisans on occasion, adorned with the colors of the Cavern Angels squadron.
Leevan Tenza made his debut appearance in the 2016 Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The character was portrayed by creature performer Dilu Miah. Although he remained unnamed in the film itself, his identity was revealed in the accompanying reference book, Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, authored by Pablo Hidalgo. According to Hidalgo, Tenza's production name was "Lee Van Teef," a clear homage to the actor Lee Van Cleef.
