Segra Milo

Segra Milo, sometimes seen as Segra-Milo, was a desolate planet found within the Outer Rim Territories' Jospro sector. Initially, it was a location for mines, but it was ultimately deserted. Later, the rebel group known as the Partisans utilized one of these mines as a launch base for their starfighters. As a result of their activities, Imperial patrols in the area were increased, and Segra Milo was designated as a piracy zone. The rebel agent Luthen Rael had several meetings with Gerrera there. He initially offered stolen technology in exchange for assistance with a tactical strike against the Galactic Empire, but he withdrew the offer when the Imperial Security Bureau learned about the attack plans.

On his subsequent departure from Segra Milo, Rael was intercepted by an Imperial patrol that attempted to capture his Fondor Haulcraft using a tractor beam. After initially delaying the Imperials, the agent disrupted the peace by damaging the tractor beam and then eliminating the air wing that was deployed, before making his escape into hyperspace.

Description

The Partisan launch base on Segra Milo

Segra Milo, also written as Segra-Milo, was a terrestrial planet situated in the Segra Milo system within the Outer Rim Territories' Jospro sector. This world had a diameter of 10,318 kilometers, equivalent to 6,411 miles, and possessed a single moon. Viewed from space, Segra Milo exhibited a green and brown colored appearance. Its surface was barren, characterized by rough valleys, rocky stretches, cliffs, and mountains. The planet featured a type I atmosphere suitable for breathing by humans and other species. The climate was cold and often cloudy, which some considered unpleasant.

History

Partisan activity

During the time of the Galactic Empire, Segra Milo was home to mines that were eventually depleted, leading to the world's abandonment. During the Empire's rule, the Partisans, a radical rebel faction led by the revolutionary Saw Gerrera, repurposed a mine on the planet into a launch base for starfighters around 5 BBY. As a consequence of the Partisan presence, a trade station in a nearby sector began reporting pirate activity, prompting the Empire to increase patrols around Segra Milo, which they then designated as part of a piracy zone. These patrols caused Gerrera to consider relocating his base, a move that would have been costly.

Luthen Rael speaks with Saw Gerrera at the Partisan base

In 5 BBY, Luthen Rael, a rebel agent who oversaw a clandestine network linking various rebel groups, journeyed to Segra Milo aboard his Fondor Haulcraft to meet with Gerrera. After landing at the Partisan launch base, Rael spoke with Gerrera and proposed an exchange: stolen Imperial technology in return for the Partisans' assistance to a rebel cell led by Neo-Separatist Anto Kreegyr in attacking the Imperial power station located on Spellhaus. Gerrera declined to collaborate with Kreegyr, dismissing the other rebel group as doomed. Rael left without securing his intended agreement.

Subsequently, Gerrera reconsidered and decided to participate in Kreegyr's attack, conducting research on Spellhaus and summoning Rael. Upon Rael's arrival and hearing Gerrera's change of heart, he halted the Partisan leader's plans, revealing that the Empire's Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) was already aware of Kreegyr's impending attack. Confused, Gerrera grew suspicious of the rebel agent, suspecting that he viewed the rebel cells as expendable. Despite the brief escalation of the confrontation, Rael managed to reassure his associate and convince him that allowing Kreegyr's group to fall into a trap would create a false sense of security within the ISB, enabling the rebels to pursue a long-term strategy. Gerrera concurred with Rael, who then departed shortly after.

Patrol encounter

An Imperial patrol stops Rael's Fondor Haulcraft above Segra Milo

While above Segra Milo, Rael contacted his colleague Kleya Marki, engaging in coded conversation about an opportunity to reconnect with one of his rogue agents, Cassian Andor. The conversation was interrupted by the arrival of an Imperial patrol, consisting of a Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser commanded by Captain Elk, which proceeded to jam communications. Upon request, Rael provided a fabricated transponder identification. While the identification was being scanned, Elk ordered the cruiser to begin drawing in the Fondor Haulcraft using a tractor beam. Rael's ship simulated a malfunction in one of its thrusters to gain time while simultaneously preparing countermeasures.

Despite Rael's attempts to stall, Elk prepared a boarding party for the Fondor Haulcraft while continuing to demand that its stabilizers be powered down. Although the false transponder ID provided a valid identification to the Imperials, the captain still wanted to use the starship for practice and instructed it to prepare for boarding. In response, Rael activated his thrusters, luring Elk's cruiser into increasing the strength of its tractor beam. The Fondor Haulcraft then released shrapnel that was drawn to and destroyed the cruiser's forward tractor dish. Elk dispatched the cruiser's air wing to pursue Rael's craft, but the enemy ship swiftly eliminated the fighters and escaped into hyperspace.

Locations

Mines were constructed on Segra Milo, but they were ultimately exhausted. The Partisans repurposed one of these mines into a launch base, conducting operations within a cavern while parking starfighters outside.

Behind the scenes

Segra Milo was initially shown in the official trailer for the first season of Tony Gilroy's live-action Disney+ series Andor, which was released on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on August 1, 2022. The world made its first appearance in "Narkina 5," the eighth episode of the season, directed by Toby Haynes and released on October 26, 2022. The caves on Segra Milo were filmed at the Winspit Quarry, located in Worth Matravers in Dorset, England, a popular filming location that has been used in previous live-action productions.
