The Lonisa City Zoo, a zoo situated in Lonisa City on the planet Valo, housed creatures like night barbarbarbs, sanvals, hragscythes, and a mudhorn. In 231 BBY, before the arrival of several dignitaries and fellow Jedi, Jedi Master Elzar Mann paid a visit, observing a hragscythe within its habitat, which returned his gaze. Later that day, during the evening inauguration of the Republic Fair, Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram needed to navigate around the zoo to get to the nearly completed Jedi temple, pausing outside the gates to contemplate his options. Subsequently, Padawans Jomaram and Lula Talisola encountered the zoo's entrance during the Nihil attack on Lonisa City. The Nihil's destructive raid led to the escape of numerous animals, with the zoo's main gate being obliterated by a rampaging hragscythe.
Following the Nihil's second assault on Lonisa City, which occurred soon after the Destruction of Starlight Beacon, the zoo was completely deserted. While some animals remained within their enclosures, others left or extended their territories. The zoo then served as a sanctuary for Jedi younglings Kildo, Tep Tep, and Gavi upon their return to Lonisa City. Tep Tep's unique ability to communicate with animals resulted in many of the zoo's former inhabitants helping to protect the children, with the acklays devouring a Nihil patrol searching the vicinity, for instance.
The Lonisa City Zoo was first introduced in both The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower, a novel authored by Daniel José Older, and The High Republic: The Rising Storm, a novel penned by Cavan Scott; both books were launched on June 29, 2021. The Zoo also makes an appearance in Escape from Valo, a junior novel from 2024 co-written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong.
