Anooba

Anoobas were a species of savage and flesh-eating mammals, bearing a resemblance to canine creatures, that inhabited desert environments. Their bodies were covered in fur in various shades of gray. A notable feature of anoobas was their prominent lower jaw, adorned with chin tusks. To ensure their survival, anoobas lived and traveled together in groups of 10 to 12. Their hunting strategy involved impaling prey with their chin tusks, followed by dismemberment using their sharp claws and teeth.

Throughout the expanse of the galaxy, anoobas found utilization and domestication for a range of purposes. The bounty hunter known as Embo had tamed an anooba by the name of Marrok, who aided him in his assignments. Within the confines of the Citadel prison, anoobas were employed to track down escapees, although a significant number of them perished during the Battle of Lola Sayu, leaving only one survivor.

Biology and appearance

Anoobas were identified as vicious mammals of the desert, sharing traits with canine animals and recognized as carnivorous. These four-legged creatures could grow to lengths of up to 2.7 meters. Key characteristics of anoobas included a noticeable lower jaw, pointed teeth, a lengthy tail, and dense patches of fur along their backs; they were also capable of producing a terrifying growl. Their back legs were shorter compared to their front legs. A chin tusk protruded from their lower jaw, and they possessed elongated claws and fangs. Younger anoobas lacked a chin tusk.

Behavior

In their natural habitat, anoobas presented a danger, typically moving in packs of 10 to 12 individuals. Their method of attack involved using their chin tusks to stab their targets, subsequently tearing them apart with their sharp claws and teeth. Anoobas could be trained for roles such as pets, guards, or hunters.

History

An anooba

Embo, a bounty hunter from Kyuzo, was the owner of an anooba called Marrok, whom he had trained to be an asset in his line of work. Marrok demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Embo and was highly trained. He provided assistance to Embo during battles and would fetch Embo's hat, which served as both a weapon and a shield. Marrok was smaller in stature than others of his kind, and he did not possess the chin tusk commonly seen on anoobas.

Osi Sobeck, a Phindian, maintained a group of dark-colored anoobas, which he deployed to pursue fugitives on the planet Lola Sayu. During a Republic operation to free prisoners of war held at the [Citadel](/article/citadel] prison, an anooba managed to attack Even Piell, a Jedi Master, while his attention was diverted by pursuing droids. The creature grappled with Piell on the ground before fatally stabbing him in the chest with its tusk, resulting in his demise.

Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian and a member of the Ghost rebel crew, adorned her armor with an anooba emblem.

Around 34 ABY, Dok-Ondar displayed a preserved anooba head, mounted on the wall of his store.

The initial appearance of anoobas occurred in "Citadel Rescue," which was the twentieth installment of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' third season, broadcasted on March 11, 2011.

The anooba's design originated as a concept for the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, conceived by concept artist Terryl Whitlatch, who envisioned the anooba as a potential inhabitant of Tatooine. In the episode "Citadel Rescue," the cages used to hold anoobas were visually inspired by the velociraptor enclosures featured in the 1993 film Jurassic Park. The animators working on the episode repurposed a gundark's mouth, modifying its size to serve as the mouths for the anoobas.
