Osi Sobeck

Osi Sobeck, a male Phindian, held the rank of commandant within the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Stationed on Lola Sayu as the warden overseeing the Citadel, a specialized prison facility, Sobeck's primary responsibility was to hold fallen Jedi. During the Battle of Lola Sayu, he attempted to kill Captain Wilhuff Tarkin of the Galactic Republic, but Padawan Ahsoka Tano intervened, eliminating Sobeck after witnessing him endangering the Republic officer.

Biography

Approximately one year into the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars], Jedi General Even Piell was captured by Separatist forces while en route back to Coruscant from a mission. Sobeck was tasked by Count Dooku to extract crucial information regarding hyperspace coordinates, specifically the Nexus Route, from Piell and his Captain, Wilhuff Tarkin, both of whom possessed separate halves of the data. Piell and some of his soldiers were incarcerated within the Citadel under Sobeck's watch.

To rescue Piell and his men, the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic initiated a mission. A rescue team, led by Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, utilized a Separatist shuttle and reprogrammed pilot droids to infiltrate Lola Sayu. Sobeck, anticipating a Jedi rescue attempt, instructed his second-in-command, the T-series tactical droid K2-B4, to scan the incoming shuttle for any life forms. The scan yielded negative results, as the rescue team was concealed within carbonite, prompting K2-B4 to grant landing clearance. Sobeck's suspicions grew when the shuttle failed to arrive at the designated landing platform. The accidental activation of an electro mine by a clone trooper confirmed Sobeck's fears, leading him to place the Citadel on high alert.

The Jedi successfully extracted Piell from his interrogation cell, but Sobeck activated a super magnet, drawing in all metallic objects, including the group's weapons and Anakin's cybernetic arm, leaving them surrounded by BX-series droid commandos. Anakin, however, managed to disable the magnet, allowing his comrades to reclaim their weapons and destroy the droids, much to Sobeck's dismay. The team then proceeded to free Tarkin and Piell's remaining men from their cells, dividing into two groups. The first group, under the leadership of Piell and Kenobi, employed thermal denotators to create diversions through explosions on the upper levels of the prison, causing chaos throughout the facility. Meanwhile, the second group, led by Tarkin, Skywalker, and his padawan Ahsoka Tano, made their escape via the lower levels, navigating a network of tunnels.

Upon learning of the escape, Count Dooku contacted Sobeck, who assured him that the situation was under control and that he would soon acquire the information. In the meantime, Skywalker instructed his astromech droid R2-D2, who was overseeing the shuttle and the reprogrammed battle droids, to land the shuttle on the Citadel's landing platform in order to extract Kenobi's group, who were still inside the facility. However, Sobeck's forces captured Kenobi's group and brought them before him. Sobeck demanded Piell's portion of the information, executing a clone to emphasize his resolve and threatening to kill the others if he refused to cooperate. Before he could kill a second clone, K2-B4 informed him that Skywalker's group had been located, and he ordered the prisoners be taken to the interrogation level for torture while he focused on Skywalker's group. R2-D2's droids managed to liberate Kenobi's group from the security droids escorting them and a droid soon reported that the prisoners had not arrived at the interrogation level, angering Sobeck. K2-B4 told him that Count Dooku wanted to speak him, but Sobeck ignored this and ordered all units to the landing platform, as the shuttle was the prisoner's only chance to escape the planet. When Kenobi's group tried to board the shuttle by acting as prisoners of the reprogrammed droids, K2-B4 informed the units on the platform of the deception. This resulted in a battle on the landing platform. Skywalker's group soon arrived, but a commando droid managed to blow up the shuttle, destroying the team's only chance of escape. The team retreated into the lower caves of Lola Sayu.

Sobeck was almost certain that the Republic would launch a second mission to evacuate the prisoners, and had K2-B4 command the blockade fleet while he focused on recapturing the team. Count Dooku contacted him again, demanding the truth about the prisoners. Sobeck told Dooku that his troops would soon capture them now that their ship was destroyed, to which Dooku replied that Sobeck's honesty was the only thing keeping him alive. Sobeck released a pack of Anoobas to track down the prisoners, which killed Piell after he had passed on his half of the information to Ahsoka.

Upon receiving confirmation from a droid that the Anoobas had located the prisoners, Sobeck personally led a squad of droids on STAPs to confront them. Sobeck and his squad located the group on a small island and engaged them in combat. Anakin and Obi-Wan successfully neutralized the majority of Sobeck's squad, while R2-D2 deployed a smoke screen, impairing Sobeck's vision and allowing ARC trooper Fives to shoot his STAP down. Tarkin attempted to shoot Sobeck but missed, and Sobeck grabbed his throat. Realizing he could never have the information, Sobeck lifted Tarkin and attempted to throw him into the lava, so that no one would have it. Ahsoka, however, spotted this and impaled Sobeck through the back with one of her lightsabers, killing him. Shortly after, the Republic breached the blockade of Lola Sayu and successfully evacuated the prisoners.

Personality and traits

Sobeck was sadistic and calculating.

Standing at 2.03 meters (6 feet, 8 inches) tall, Sobeck, a male Phindian, possessed khaki skin and yellow eyes. As the warden responsible for the notoriously inescapable Citadel, Sobeck held immense pride in his reputation and was willing to employ any method necessary to recapture fleeing prisoners. He specialized in torturing and breaking Jedi prisoners of war. Sobeck's methods of interrogation instilled on his prisoners such as Piell and Tarkin were brutal.

Despite his position as warden requiring him to stay in his security room, he was often labeled a coward by his enemies due to his reluctance to engage them directly. Sobeck's frustration grew as his droid guards failed to contain the Republic intruders, leading him to execute valuable BX-series commando droids simply for reporting prisoner escapes. He also displayed impatience and a short temper, even threatening his tactical droid for not informing him of Dooku's transmission before accepting it, telling him that he needs time to prepare.

Sobeck primarily managed the facility's operations from his command center, relying on security camera feeds and reports from droid guards. His control over the prison's systems included the ability to remotely seal blast doors within the ventilation shafts to impede intruders and activate magnetic ceilings to disarm them. While he rarely intervened personally, desperate situations prompted him to wield E-5 blaster rifles while pursuing escapees. Physically, Sobeck possessed considerable strength, capable of easily lifting an adult male human with both arms.

Skills and abilities

As the Citadel's warden, Sobeck demonstrated proficiency in military tactics, leadership, interrogation techniques, and both armed and unarmed combat. He also possessed significant physical strength, enabling him to lift Tarkin into the air with his arms.

Equipment

Sobeck utilized an E-5 blaster rifle during combat situations. He also exhibited competence in operating a STAP.
