Lula Talisola

Lula Talisola, a Jedi Padawan of the female human species, made her home on Naboo before her induction into the Jedi Order. She then underwent training from esteemed Jedi Masters such as Yoda, Torban Buck, and Kantam Sy. During the High Republic Era and the Nihil conflict, Talisola honed her skills aboard the Padawan Academic Cruiser known as Star Hopper. She shared a close bond with fellow Padawans Farzala Tarabal and Qort, often acting as their protector.

Following the Great Hyperspace Disaster, the Padawans of the Star Hopper were dispatched to address an Emergence within the Trymant system. During a confrontation with Nihil pirates threatening the inhabitants of Bralanak City, Talisola encountered Zeen Mrala, a Force-sensitive resident. With Mrala's assistance, the Jedi successfully repelled the Nihil and welcomed her to Starlight Beacon, where their relationship deepened, even leading to shared meditation sessions.

Not long after, Nihil activity was detected on the junk moon of Quantxi. Mrala made the independent decision to search for her friend Krix Kamerat, who had aligned himself with the Nihil, prompting Talisola and her companions to follow. On the moon's surface, the Padawans once more found themselves battling numerous Nihil raiders while safeguarding a Junk Maven campsite. Talisola separated from her friends to locate Mrala, eventually finding her in a confrontation with Kamerat, with Mrala using The Force to choke Kamerat. Talisola intervened swiftly, but Marchion Ro rescued Kamerat. Despite the Jedi's efforts to prevent the Nihil's Spider Cruiser from escaping, they were unsuccessful. Talisola then rejoined her Padawan friends, relieved to find them safe.

During a subsequent visit to Trymant IV, Talisola experienced feelings of envy towards Vernestra Rwoh's accomplishments as a Jedi Knight at a similar age. Upon landing on the damaged planet, the Jedi met with Elder Barbatash, who diffused a potential conflict with local residents. A conversation with Barbatash directed the Jedi to Vrant Tarnum, where Talisola and Rwoh explored the rocky terrain. They discovered numerous Nihil ships moving in formation and eventually departing the hidden base with their Path engines. Talisola learned of the Nihil's plan to attack Valo, the location of the Republic Fair, but the disabling of Crashpoint Tower prevented them from issuing a warning. The Jedi promptly departed for Valo.

En route to Valo, Talisola shared her insecurities with Rwoh, who reassured her about her progress and the pace of her journey. Upon exiting hyperspace, they discovered Lonisa City under Nihil assault and joined the battle while attempting to contact Starlight. Receiving no response, they descended to the ground and continued the fight. Teaming up with Ty Yorrick and encountering Ram Jomaram and some Bonbraks, they raced towards Crashpoint Tower. Battling the Nihil, a Hragscythe, and Drengir along the way, whether on speeder bike, Sanval, or on foot, the two reached the Tower. There, Talisola engaged several Nihil ships in the air and on the ground, eventually being rescued by V-18, though she sustained an arm wound during the fight. After Jomaram restored the Tower's communications, he requested to join Mrala and Talisola on their future adventures, which they accepted. Soon after, the group resumed fighting the Nihil in the streets of Lonisa City.

Following the attack on the Republic Fair, the Padawans reunited on Starlight, where Talisola introduced Qort and Tarabal to Jomaram and met Ishnar Ti-Kharatal. After a discussion with their , the Padawans departed for Takodana to aid in defending the temple from impending Nihil attacks. During preparations, two Nihil double agents detonated thermal detonators, destroying the temple as Nihil starfighters approached. Talisola and the others were saved from the attack after Qort's Vonduun crab mask shattered in the destruction, unleashing his unrestricted natural abilities and driving away Kamerat and his Nihil.

Upon returning to Starlight, Talisola and the other Padawans participated in the Great Jedi Rumble Race organized by Masters Buck and Sy. Later, she joined a task force to locate and capture Kamerat permanently. Bibs discovered Kamerat's Nihil encampment on Dol'har Hyde, and the Padawans descended upon the world to finally capture Kamerat within his base. With Kamerat imprisoned on the Starhopper, Talisola was presented with the opportunity to be knighted. After contemplating, accepting, and ultimately expressing her love for Mrala, Talisola declined the knighthood, but rejoiced in her two best friends becoming Jedi Knights. A year after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Talisola had become a Nihil warlord, operating as Tartak Vil on the moon of Bracront.

Biography

Early life

Lula Talisola, a human female with Force-sensitive abilities, was born on the planet of Naboo, situated in the Mid Rim. In her early years, Talisola resided in an orphanage on Naboo. Eventually, Kantam Sy, a former Jedi who had returned to the Order to train her, brought her to the Jedi Temple of the Jedi Order on Endovar. Due to her youth, Talisola had no memory of her original home. She formed close friendships with fellow Padawans Farzala Tarabal and Qort, often watching over them during their mischievous escapades. Eventually, Talisola became a member of the Padawan class aboard the cruiser Star Hopper, under the supervision of Jedi Masters Torban Buck and Yoda.

Battle on Trymant

In 232 BBY, the freighter Legacy Run was obliterated in hyperspace beyond the Hetzal system, triggering the [Great Hyperspace Disaster](/article/great_hyperspace_disaster]. This event endangered the star system due to the abundance of hyperspace debris. In the aftermath, additional Emergences of debris began occurring throughout the Outer Rim Territories. When one Emergence posed a threat to the Trymant system, the Star Hopper was the only Jedi or Galactic Republic starship within range, prompting it to divert and provide assistance.

As Yoda instructed the Padawans to prepare for whatever awaited them on Trymant, Talisola grew anxious, doubting her readiness for field missions despite excelling in her exams. She felt conflicted, believing she should be excited but struggling to focus. In response to Tarabal's inquiry, Yoda reminded the apprentices that retreat was not an option, as they represented Trymant's only hope. Talisola feared that things might go awry.

The Padawans in action

As the Star Hopper approached Trymant, Yoda and Buck gathered the Padawans and asked them to share their findings about the situation. Tarabal and Qort reported that it was fallout from the Great Disaster, while Talisola, along with the Bravaisian Bibs, noted that large debris fragments were on a collision course with Bralanak City, the most densely populated area of Trymant IV, the system's most populated planet. Yoda urged the apprentices to trust in the Force, and Buck announced that he and Yoda would handle the largest debris pieces before dispatching the Padawans to their rescue speeders. Taking control of a speeder with Tarabal as her co-pilot, Talisola embarked on her mission. Navigating through falling debris, she narrowly avoided a large piece after a warning from her Zygerrian friend, eliciting a grin from her.

Once on the ground, Talisola assumed a leadership role while collaborating with Tarabal, Qort, and Bibs to assist civilians, starting to believe that things might actually turn out well. During their efforts, Tarabal noticed a piece of debris heading towards a building with people on its roof, alerting Talisola. She instructed Qort and Bibs to follow with their hover platform while she and Tarabal boarded their rescue speeder. As Talisola piloted the speeder, Tarabal managed to shoot down the debris just in time. Talisola complimented him before pondering how to evacuate the city, as they needed a large vessel to accommodate the people. Spotting a large ship nearby, Tarabal suggested it to his friend.

The cruiser belonged to Nihil pirates, who were there to evacuate Tromak, a member of the Elders of the Path. The Padawans, led by Talisola, arrived at the building where the spider-shaped ship had landed just after Tromak had asked the pirates not to kill Zeen Mrala and Krix Kamerat, two young members of the group who had been attempting to persuade the pirates to allow the use of their ship as an evacuation vessel. With her lightsaber already ignited, Talisola politely insisted that the pirates' vessel was required for evacuation immediately. Bibs was concerned that they hadn't asked nicely, and one pirate snapped that they were not going to hand over their ship to childen, especially "snivelling" Jedi. As Mrala and Kamerat dove out of the way, a firefight occurred as the Nihil opened fire on the Padawans, who deflected the shots.

Lula and her friends surrounded by the Nihil

The sight of Talisola and her friends fighting awed Mrala, who as a Force-sensitive in a sect that spurned its use had been trying to hide her powers all her life. Mrala realized that she could be like the Jedi and use her powers for good. After deflecting the first barrage, Talisola retorted to the pirates that she had been "asking nicely" earlier, and Tarabal declared that they would take the ship. As the Padawans leapt forward again, Talisola and Mrala both sensed a large piece of debris heading straight for their position. The two girls, strangers to each other, moved as one, Mrala leaping out to hold off the debris while Talisola Force pushed away attacking pirates. The Padawans were shocked at Mrala's actions, but Talisola stepped in to help her when the untrained girl began to lose her hold on the debris, reassuring her that they had her back. A shocked Kamerat was dragged away by Tromak as another figure emerged from the Nihil ship, declaring that the Jedi were right where he wanted them. As the pirates surrounded the Padawans and Mrala, the figure ordered their execution.

Tarabal asked her what they were going to do, and Talisola declared that they had no choice but to fight. Masters Yoda and Buck shortly arrived to assist the apprentices, and Talisola and her friends were taken aback by the Chagrian's dramatic "Buckets of Blood" nickname before leaping into action. As the battle raged, Mrala asked the Masters for help, as Kamerat had apparently been captured by the Nihil. Talisola immediately backed her up, telling the Masters how Mrala had helped them by using the Force, and offered to sneak around and rescue Kamerat herself. Yoda overruled her and said he would do it himself, telling Buck that Talisola was right about their duty to Mrala when the Jedi healer expressed concern about his ability to lead the Padawans to safety by himself. In the thick of battle, Tarabal shouted a warning to Talisola and Yoda about a projectile flung in their direction by a Gigoran pirate, which Yoda swiftly destroyed. Talisola was visibly impressed, and after Yoda headed off with Mrala's pet, Cham Cham, she reassured Master Buck that the Jedi could handle the situation.

Talisola led the charge as she, her fellow Padawans, Mrala and Buck waded into battle. In response to Tarabal asking how they were looking, Talisola complimented Mrala's use of telekinesis during the battle, saying she was a natural. Tarabal then spotted Buck, who was in danger of being overwhelmed, and Talisola rallied the Padawans to rescue him, driving the pirates back. Just then, a Republic rescue fleet arrived to assist, leading Buck to proclaim that they were saved. In the aftermath, as Republic ships began landing, Talisola and Tarabal asked Buck why he called himself Buckets of Blood, but neither apprentice found his explanation, about keeping blood inside the body, to be very convincing. Just after the Spider Cruiser took off, Talisola and her fellow apprentices were surprised by the arrival of Yoda, who stated it was imperative that the ship be stopped. Returning Cham Cham to Mrala with the news that he may have eaten a pirate's arm, Yoda told her that she had to come to the Starlight Beacon with them, and he had not been able to rescue Kamerat because he had not wanted to be rescued. Talisola put a hand on Mrala's shoulder to comfort her. The Nihil ship escaped the system by firing on a medical frigate as a diversion.

A new friend

While travelling to the Beacon on the Star Hopper, Talisola comforted a crying Mrala, who admitted to her that she had left the only place she had lived that felt like home. Mrala added that she might not have had a true home because those who raised her would not have accepted her for who she really was, and Talisola responded that she had left her home so young that she did not remember it, but had found a new one with her friends. Talisola said that she and her friends had Mrala's back, and Tarabal and Qort backed up her statement. She further assured Mrala, as the cruiser prepared to dock with Starlight, that they were going to the best place in the galaxy.

For the following week, Talisola and her friends easily incorporated Mrala into their group as they had fun together. At the end of that week, Talisola went to Mrala's room to inform her that the Jedi Masters wanted to speak to her, walking in on her crying as she had just watched a message Kamerat had sent her through paired holoprojectors given to them by Yoda. Talisola asked her what was wrong, and Mrala said she was simply processing the changes in her life before asking the Padawan what she wanted. As Talisola was explaining, however, Masters Yoda, Buck, Sy, Estala Maru and Avar Kriss arrived, Sy asking if they were interrupting. Kriss said that they wanted to talk to Mrala about her future plans.

During the Masters' discussion, Maru pointed out that Mrala was too old to begin Jedi training, but Kriss noted that they did not know what conditions were like on Trymant IV and Sy argued that Mrala got along well with the apprentices, including Talisola. The topic led Talisola to interrupt, suggesting that they should ask Mrala what she wanted to do as her opinion was the most important, and Tarabal backed her up, adding that they also ask the various Padawans and younglings Mrala had befriended, whose opinions were second most important.

Attack on Valo

Talisola accompanied Zeen Mrala and Kantam Sy back to Trymant IV, where they engaged in conversation with Elder Barbatash regarding the whereabouts of Elder Tromak. This inquiry directed the Jedi toward Vrant Tarnum, where they encountered Nihil vessels. Subsequently, they received a transmission from Ram Jomaram, cautioning them about Nihil sabotage efforts on Valo. Talisola and Vernestra Rwoh journeyed to Valo, where they discovered the Nihil launching an assault on the Republic Fair. Lula then crossed paths with Jomaram and, alongside him, embarked on a mission to Crashpoint Tower with the aim of reinstating the planet's communications infrastructure.

Fall of Starlight

In 230 BBY, Talisola was a participant in the battle at Dol'har Hyde, an engagement that culminated in the capture of Kamerat. Together with Mrala, Talisola embarked on a journey aboard the Star Hopper to transport Kamerat back to Starlight Beacon for imprisonment. However, en route to the station, Mrala received a summons to Corellia to provide assistance to fellow Jedi who were investigating a recent act of aggression. Talisola reassured her friend that she would ensure the Nihil's safe delivery to Starlight. A short time later, the station met its destruction at the hands of the Nihil. Initial reports emerging from the scene of the destruction indicated that Talisola, along with Buck, Tarabal, and numerous others, were classified as missing and presumed deceased. Nevertheless, Mrala held a firm belief that Talisola remained alive, asserting that she would have sensed her passing had it occurred. Driven by this conviction, Mrala pledged to undertake any measure necessary to locate her.

Survival

Talisola, against all odds, managed to survive the fall. In the year following the cataclysmic event at Starlight, an amnesiac Talisola had transitioned into the role of a rogue Nihil warlord, adopting the moniker "Tartak Vil," until fate intervened, leading to her reunion with Mrala on the lunar landscape of Bracront.

Personality and traits

Lula Talisola

Lula Talisola was characterized as a human female distinguished by her brown complexion, captivating brown [eyes](/article/eye], and dark brown hair meticulously arranged in an array of intricate braids. Her stature measured 1.65 meters (equivalent to 5 ft, 5 in). Possessing a sharp intellect and a high degree of competence, she was, however, plagued by self-doubt stemming from the absence of real-world trials for her skills. This apprehension was particularly pronounced in the lead-up to her inaugural mission on Trymant IV, although she adeptly masked her inner turmoil. She consistently demonstrated a protective inclination toward her closest companions, Farzala and Qort, often intervening on their behalf during their mischievous escapades. Upon entering the fray on Trymant IV, she seamlessly transitioned into a leadership position, guiding her fellow apprentices with natural authority. In her interactions with the Nihil, she initially adopted a polite approach, considering her initial request for the use of their ship as "asking nicely" before resorting to force in response to hostile fire. Furthermore, she extended her support to Zeen Mrala, a complete stranger, by reassuring her and assisting in holding back falling hyperspace debris.

Talisola was also quick to advocate that the Jedi had a duty to help Mrala rescue her friend Krix Kamerat, since she had helped them. She also comforted the Mikkian after she had been separated from Kamerat in the battle's aftermath, reassuring her that she and her friends would support Mrala if she needed it. She developed romantic feelings for Mrala, which were difficult for her to process because of the Jedi Order's rules on attachment. As such, despite it having been her life's dream up to that point, she requested to not be made a Jedi Knight when the chance arose, hoping to take more time to understand herself.

Powers and abilities

Lula Talisola possessed remarkable Force powers, consistently ranking at the pinnacle of her class across all subjects. Her proficiency in lightsaber combat was exceptional, enabling her to expertly deflect incoming blaster bolts. Additionally, she exhibited mastery over telekinesis, demonstrated by her ability to aid Zeen Mrala in restraining a substantial piece of falling debris and simultaneously execute Force-pushes on multiple individuals. Talisola also showcased her expertise as a skilled pilot of rescue speeders.

Equipment

Lula Talisola was typically adorned in brown-and-ivory Jedi robes accentuated with golden embellishments and a striking blue sash. Her primary weapon of choice was a lightsaber emitting a vibrant blue blade. During her involvement in the Trymant IV rescue mission, she skillfully piloted a rescue speeder.

Behind the scenes

Lula Talisola's introduction occurred with the unveiling of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. Her surname was first disclosed in a StarWars.com article focusing on Padawan characters within the project. Her inaugural appearance took place in the comic book The High Republic Adventures (2021) 1.
