Biography

Life Alongside the Partisans

Maia, a human of the female persuasion, was Lux Bonteri's goddaughter. Bonteri's stories about the Onderonian freedom fighter Saw Gerrera led Maia to view him as a heroic figure. By the year 7 BBY, Maia was a member of Gerrera's Partisans, serving under him and stationed with a group of fighters at Gerrera's outpost on the planet of Wrea. She won a pair of synthskin gloves from her fellow partisan Codo and wore them from then on. Maia was known for her excellent marksmanship, and the young Jyn Erso admired her. Maia, in turn, recognized Erso's developing skills and considered her a skilled shot, an opinion that Gerrera valued.

Maia discovered that Staven, another partisan, had his family saved by Gerrera's supply runs, which bypassed Imperial blockades. At one point, Gerrera dispatched Maia and Codo on a mission. Later, Gerrera entrusted Erso with her first solo mission to Horuz, confident in her abilities partly due to Maia's positive assessment of her skills.

Events on Inusagi

In 6 BBY, Maia accompanied Gerrera and Erso to Inusagi, a planet in the Mid Rim, with the intention of assassinating Cor Tophervin, the Imperial governor appointed after Inusagi was forcibly integrated into the Empire. Erso, unaware of the mission's true objective, created several fake party invitations to grant Maia, Gerrera, and members of Arane's partisans access to the palace of the Inusagi chieftess.

During the journey to Inusagi, Maia donned traditional Inusagian robes designed to conceal weapons. Upon arrival at the Inusagian spaceport, the group separated. Maia waited at the ship while Erso and Gerrera proceeded to the palace, after which she took the zip port herself. Inside the palace, Maia and nine other fighters armed themselves with FC-1 flechette launchers and attacked the assembled crowd in the ballroom, resulting in the death of Tophervin, the chieftess, and numerous Imperials and Inusagians.

As the partisans attempted to escape, a stormtrooper confronted Maia. When the trooper tried to apprehend her, her robes were torn, revealing her hidden weapons. After a short confrontation, the stormtrooper used a blaster to shoot and kill Maia, an event witnessed by Erso.

Aftermath

Erso subsequently inherited Maia's synthskin gloves. Shortly after the Battle on Jedha, upon returning to Gerrera's base in the Catacombs of Cadera, Jyn inquired with a female Partisan about Maia's well-being, before remembering that she had been present at Maia's death.

Personality and Characteristics

Maia, a human female, possessed a slim physique and a relatively quiet nature. She was highly proficient with blasters, demonstrating exceptional accuracy. She maintained friendly relationships with many of the regulars on Wrea, often sharing drinks, war stories, and jokes with them. Jyn Erso admired Maia and sought to learn from her. Maia was kind to Erso, affectionately referring to her as "little one." She understood that Gerrera cared deeply for Erso, and on one occasion, she reassured Erso by suggesting that she believed Erso was the only thing Gerrera cared about.
