Mapuzo

Located within the Mid Rim Territories was Mapuzo, a planet under the control of the Galactic Empire and used for mining operations. Once a vibrant world teeming with life, the planet had become a desolate wasteland due to the Empire's exploitative mining practices. After rescuing Princess Leia Organa, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi managed to flee the planet Daiyu by concealing himself aboard a transport destined for Mapuzo.

Kenobi's presence on Mapuzo was discovered by the Empire's Inquisitorius. A contingent consisting of the Fifth Brother, the Third Sister, and the Fourth Sister, led by Sith Lord Darth Vader, journeyed to the planet in search of the Jedi Master.

Behind the scenes

The teaser trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, a 2022 television series on Disney+, marked the initial visual depiction of Mapuzo within the new Star Wars canon. The planet received its first mention in "Part II" of the series, which was broadcast on May 26, 2022. Its first appearance occurred in the third episode of the series, released on June 1, 2022. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, Mapuzo received a brief reference concerning a break-in in Alliance Intelligence Reports, a 1995 supplement by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game; however, the sourcebook did not elaborate on the nature of Mapuzo. The Mapuzo system was subsequently referenced in The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book penned by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. The initial scene filmed with Hayden Christensen involved his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in a vision experienced by Kenobi on Mapuzo. This scene was filmed on location, and Ewan McGregor, the actor embodying Kenobi, made sure to be on set to support Christensen's return.
