Commander Mike Beidler, a retired military diplomat (Foreign Area Officer) and former United States Navy aviator, has lent his expertise as a military technical advisor and continuity editor to numerous Star Wars writers. As the originator of the Star Wars Literature Compendium, the earliest (1995) and, for a time, the most exhaustive literature timeline available online, Beidler is regarded as the originator of Star Wars chronologies and the inspiration behind more recent and comprehensive timelines, such as Time Tales and the Star Wars Timeline Project.
Beidler has been Tuckerized as several characters within the Expanded Universe (details below). Alongside Tom Veitch and Rich Handley, he shares complete responsibility for the notorious Scourge of the Nevoota Bee in-joke.
