Nette

During the Galactic Empire's imperial_era, a female named Nette resided on the Gavana Orbital space station alongside her mother. Nette, through shared viewings of holovids featuring the wanted Senator Mon Mothma, introduced the sixteen-year-old Yrica Quell to the ideals of the Rebel Alliance. They considered joining the Rebellion together. However, Nette eventually departed to join the Alliance independently, leaving a farewell message for Quell, with whom she had developed a close bond. Motivated by Nette's actions, Quell enrolled in the Imperial Academy with the intention of receiving flight training and later defecting to the Rebellion.

Biography

Nette convinced Yrica Quell (pictured) to try to join the Rebel Alliance.

Nette's birth occurred at some point during or after 19 BBY. She eventually made her home on the Gavana Orbital space station, sharing an apartment with her mother throughout the Galactic Empire's reign. In 2 BBY, Senator Mon Mothma, then an enemy of the state, used holovids to broadcast the Empire's wrongdoings and encourage resistance. Around the age of seventeen, Nette watched these broadcasts in her apartment alongside Yrica Quell, a resident of Gavana Orbital who was a year younger, the two girls sat closely together as they watched. They grew close, and Quell pledged her all to Nette. They talked about joining Mon Mothma's Rebel Alliance together, and Nette persuaded Quell to give it a shot.

Nette later left Gavana Orbital alone to become involved with the Rebellion, leaving Quell only a message informing her of the choice she had made. Quell then signed up for the Imperial Academy in Nette's name, becoming part of the Imperial Navy to take advantage of their flight training with the intention of defecting to the Alliance afterward. However, Quell ultimately chose to remain with the Empire until she deserted to the Rebellion's successor, the New Republic, in 4 ABY.

In a conversation with New Republic pilot Nath Tensent, Quell mentioned that Nette had convinced her that serving in the Alliance was the most valuable thing one could do. Quell later experienced mental visions of Nette from a tower located on a planetoid within the Cerberon system in 5 ABY. Following this event, she spoke with the IT-O Interrogation Unit IT-O, a colleague with whom she was stranded after their freighter crashed, about her relationship with Nette, and how Nette had left for the Rebellion without telling her.

Personality and traits

Nette, a female with a distinctive crooked jawline, formed a tight bond with Yrica Quell during their teenage years on Gavana Orbital, the two embracing as they sat watching holovids together. Though Nette introduced the Rebel Alliance to the younger girl and encouraged her to try joining, she ultimately decided to leave for the Rebellion without notice, leaving Quell only a message. Looking back on their youthful relationship as an adult, Quell refrained from labeling it as a romance.

Behind the scenes

Nette was initially referenced in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, the first book in the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy authored by Alexander Freed. Freed was subsequently asked on Twitter whether Nette and Yrica Quell's mentioned first girlfriend were the same person. Freed responded that there was insufficient evidence to definitively confirm that Nette was Quell's first girlfriend, but it was reasonable to believe the pair were romantically involved. Nette's first visual appearance was in flashbacks in the second book of Freed's trilogy, the 2020 novel Shadow Fall.
