Nox, a manufacturing planet, resided within the Tython system located in the Deep Core region of the galaxy. Over 34,000 years prior to the Battle of Yavin, it was settled by non–Force-sensitive colonists from the planet Tython. By 25,793 BBY, Nox had evolved into a world primarily focused on producing goods that posed environmental hazards. Pollution levels were so extreme that its inhabitants were compelled to reside in domed cities. In 25,793 BBY, Daegen Lok, an exiled Je'daii, intended to utilize Nox's forge factories to enable the Force Hound Xesh to construct a Forcesaber for him.
Situated at galactic coordinates L-10 within the Tython system of the galaxy's Deep Core region, Nox was a planet without any moons. It orbited Tythos, its sun, in the third orbital position. The planet's severe pollution forced its inhabitants to live in domed cities that received filtered air.
More than a millennium after 36,453 BBY, non–Force-sensitive settlers from Tython—the fifth planet in its system— traveled to nearby worlds and established a colony on Nox. Originally verdant, Nox boasted extensive forests and intricate ecosystems. However, the settlers rapidly exploited its abundant metal deposits and vast timber resources to construct massive smelting facilities, ultimately extracting 90% of the metals utilized throughout the system. Over a thousand years, the majority of the forests were reduced to ash, along with the creatures that depended on them. This was a ruthless devastation of the planet, but the Tho Yor had brought them to a new, mysterious frontier, and they were driven to establish a home.

By 25,793 BBY, Nox had transformed into a manufacturing world, hosting almost ninety domed cities dedicated to the production and refinement of ore. Nox manufactured products such as the CRSF27 space freighter built by Craedos Shipyards, whose production posed environmental risks.
As the Despot War intensified across the Tython system, some manufacturing cities aligned their production capabilities with the Despot Queen Hadiya, while others supported the Je'daii. These divisions were profound, persisting even after the war, as numerous domes had been completely destroyed by shelling from both sides. Greenwood Station harbored the greatest animosity towards the Je'daii, as the Order's bombers had destroyed the three cities closest to it.
In 25,793 BBY, Daegen Lok, the exiled Human Je'daii, intended for the Human Force Hound Xesh to use Nox's forge factories to create a Forcesaber for him. During their hunt for Lok and Xesh, the Je'daii team, led by Hawk Ryo, the Twi'lek Ranger, decided to go to Nox to apprehend the fugitives.
Nox was initially visualized in the Tython entry within The Holonet feature of the official website for Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game from 2011 developed by BioWare. A schematic of the Tython system featured the planet. Since its inception in 2008, The Old Republic's website has undergone several revisions, resulting in the removal of certain features and images, including the aforementioned schematic. Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi 0, a preview issue of the Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comic books series, provided Nox's name and supplementary details. John Ostrander wrote the issue, and Jan Duursema penciled it. It was released on February 1, 2012. The first, sixth, and seventh issues of the series, published on February 15, November 28, and December 19 of that year, also mentioned the manufacturing planet.
