A male human named Praji held the rank of commander within the Imperial Military. During the year 0 BBY, he was stationed aboard the Devastator, which served as the flagship of Darth Vader. His assignment was to capture R2-D2 and C-3PO while they were located on Tatooine.
Praji, like numerous individuals in positions of power, was raised in an environment of affluence and advantage. He distinguished himself both in his academic pursuits and as a military officer, leading to his appointment as a respected commander within the Officer Corps of the Galactic Empire. In 0 BBY, he was serving as a crucial aide to the Sith Lord Darth Vader on the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Devastator. This occurred when the Star Destroyer was in pursuit of the rebel CR90 corvette, the Tantive IV, following the Battle of Scarif. The plans for the Imperial Death Star superweapon had been seized during the battle and transmitted to the Tantive IV, prompting Vader's attempt to recover them. The Devastator successfully disabled and boarded the corvette while it was positioned above the planet Tatooine.
Once the boarding was complete, Praji received orders to promptly proceed to the corvette's primary computer room. His mission was to locate the Death Star schematics and any other relevant data stored within the computer systems before the rebels could destroy it. To accomplish this objective, he deployed the modified R4 astromech droid R4-M9, which was escorted through the vessel by stormtroopers accompanied by the Imperial droid R2-Q2. However, Princess Leia Organa had already extracted the plans from the computer and entrusted them to the droid R2-D2 for removal from the ship via an escape pod. Upon realizing that the plans were absent from the main computer, a report was communicated to Vader.
Later, Praji intercepted Vader and Commander Daine Jir in one of the Tantive IV's corridors, informing them that the plans were nowhere to be found on the corvette. He further reported to the Sith that the rebels had not transmitted any messages, but an escape pod, apparently devoid of life forms, had been launched and reached the surface of Tatooine. Correctly concluding that the plans were likely within the pod, Vader instructed Praji to personally ensure that a detachment of troops was dispatched to Tatooine to retrieve them. Subsequently, the commander oversaw the preparation of a squad of desert stormtroopers, who were then transported in a Sentinel-class landing craft from one of the Devastator's hangars. After their scanners failed to detect the plans, the team landed in the spaceport of Mos Eisley. Praji commanded the troopers to immediately commence searching for the plans, but ultimately, they were unsuccessful in preventing the plans from leaving Tatooine in the hands of the Rebellion.
Praji's attire consisted of a black military uniform, including a kepi adorned with an officer's disc. He also sported two code cylinders and an Imperial rank insignia plaque featuring four blue tiles and two amber tiles.
George Roubicek portrayed Praji without receiving credit in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, the inaugural installment of the Star Wars original trilogy. However, Praji's dialogue was dubbed by an American actor, resulting in a voice that differed significantly from Roubicek's. In Star Wars Legends, the character's given name was established as "Nahdonnis."
Praji's scenes were filmed during the Tantive IV sequence, which spanned three days in July 1976, near the conclusion of Episode IV's principal photography. The filming took place on the Tantive IV main corridor set, constructed on Stage 9 of Elstree Studios, located just north of London. In the revised fourth draft script of A New Hope, Praji was referred to as "Second Officer," and Vader instructs fellow officer Daine Jir, rather than Praji, to "send a detachment down," as documented in Star Wars: Behind the Magic and Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays.
During Celebration IV in May 2007, George Roubicek participated in a round-table discussion led by Scott Chernoff, where he shared memories of his role. Other participants included Kenneth Colley (Firmus Piett), David Prowse (Darth Vader), Barrie Holland (Renz), Richard LeParmentier (Conan Antonio Motti), and Julian Glover (Maximilian Veers).
