In 3630 BBY, to fund their fight against the Eternal Empire of Zakuul, the Alliance partnered with Gault Rennow, a notorious con artist, for a daring raid on the Gilded Star, a treasury ship safeguarding Zakuul's stolen wealth. The Alliance's leaders, along with Gault, journeyed to Vandin, a Gas giant where the Gilded Star was concealed. There, the Alliance Commander aided Gault in enlisting Dretcher, an Anomid identity slicer, who created a holographic disguise for Senya Tirall to access the ship's bridge alongside SCORPIO. SCORPIO then unlocked the vault for Gault and the Alliance Commander, while Gault's accomplice, Vette, deactivated the vault's security. Gault then placed a missile warhead within the vault, which, upon detonation, transformed the precious metal contents into vapor, which was then pumped into a tanker piloted by Lana Beniko. With the assistance of Hylo Visz, Gault, Vette, and the Alliance Commander successfully fled the ship, returning to the Alliance base on [Odessen](/article/odessen], where Gault and Vette committed to joining the Alliance's cause.
hiding in the atmosphere of the gas giant Vandin. Strained for funds, the Commander agreed to the plan and accompanied Gault to Vandin along with Lana Beniko, Theron Shan, Senya Tirall and SCORPIO. Bringing in his partner Vette and an identity slicer Dretcher, Gault outlined his plan to infiltrate the ship and sabotage a warhead inside its reinforced vault, vaporizing its contents so that they could be siphoned away from the ship. The heist went mostly as planned, as Lana and Theron piloted the tanker ship and made a safe getaway, while those aboard the Gilded Star itself were picked up by Hylo Visz. Returning to Odessen, Gault and Vette expressed their desire to join the Alliance, but the celebration was interrupted by the return of Aric Jorgan and Kaliyo Djannis, who managed to escape Zakuul with a database on the GEMINI droids, although four of Havoc Squad's six members were lost in the process. Hoping to salvage this fiasco, Beniko ordered SCORPIO to analyze the data archive.

During the war against Zakuul in 3630 BBY, Gault Rennow, a con artist, and his partner Vette devised a scheme to pilfer the Gilded Star, a treasury ship employed by the Eternal Empire of Zakuul to secure the treasures amassed from their galactic conquests during the Eternal Empire conquest. The Gilded Star lay hidden within the depths of Vandin's atmosphere, a Gas giant, its vault so impregnable it could withstand the ship's complete disintegration, inspiring Gault and Vette's plan to empty it. To initiate their scheme, Gault commissioned a functional missile from the Brekken Gang, tasking the Niktos with delivering it to Vandin, while simultaneously dispatching Vette to infiltrate the missile and retrieve its warhead. Gault also arranged for the unannounced delivery of his old acquaintance Dretcher's hiding place to Vandin.

The warhead's purpose was to vaporize the vault's precious metal contents for easy removal, while Dretcher was to provide disguises. However, Gault's plan also hinged on the involvement of specific individuals. To this end, the Devaronian contacted his former associate Hylo Visz, who was collaborating with the Alliance opposing Zakuul, inviting him to the Alliance base on Odessen. Upon his arrival, Gault was introduced to the Alliance Commander and presented his proposal, which the Alliance Commander accepted. The Commander assembled a team of Alliance personnel, including Lana Beniko, Theron Shan, Senya Tirall, and SCORPIO, and together they departed with Gault for Vandin.

Upon reaching the gas giant's Tibanna mining platform, Gault led the Alliance Commander to locate Dretcher's concealed container. After Gault threatened the Anomid with a lethal shaking via sonic amplifier, Dretcher relented and allowed the Devaronian into his container, agreeing to fulfill his role. Gault and the Commander then attended a meeting with the Brekken Gang and its Captain Kenrik Fost, where Vette feigned the activation of the missile, deceiving the Niktos into fleeing without payment and securing the warhead. Gault then gathered his team at their hideout and unveiled his complete plan, assigning each member their respective roles. Dretcher's task involved forging the identity of High Justice Vaylin for her mother, Senya Tirall, who provided a genetic match and possessed the necessary character knowledge, and would bring SCORPIO aboard as her "attache droid". They were to gain access to the bridge, lower security, and allow Vette, Gault, and the Alliance Commander to board and plant the warhead inside the vault, while Shan and Beniko would pilot a tanker to siphon off the vaporized precious metals.

As the Gilded Star approached for its annual resupply, the team moved into position. Employing Dretcher's holographic disguise, Senya, accompanied by SCORPIO, boarded the ship under the guise of her daughter. From the bridge, SCORPIO seized control of the Gilded Star's network, initiating an emergency lockdown under the pretense of testing, thereby isolating the ship's security personnel and facilitating the entry of Gault, Vette, and the Alliance Commander. The vault's security mechanism, isolated from the main network, required Vette to infiltrate the ship's inner workings to disable it, while the Commander and Gault proceeded to the vault itself. After Vette unlocked the vault door, Gault planted the missile warhead inside and retreated, securing the door behind him. The Commander then used Gault's detonator to activate the warhead, which vaporized the vault's entire content of precious metals, while leaving everything outside safe and intact. Lana Beniko and Theron Shan then maneuvered a tanker ship alongside the Gilded Star and extended the umbilical cord, while SCORPIO disengaged the airlock and depressurized the vault.

The vault's contents, now in gaseous form, were pumped into the tanker over a period of approximately ten minutes, after which SCORPIO and Senya abandoned the bridge and joined Lana and Theron aboard the tanker. With SCORPIO no longer in control of the blast doors, which began obstructing their escape routes, Gault, Vette, and the Alliance Commander planned to descend to the mining platform via the skyhook, retracing their steps. However, upon reaching the lift, it was already ascending towards them, and Senya sensed, through the Force, that her daughter Vaylin was inside. Desperate to avoid a confrontation, Gault opted to venture outside along the ship's hull, which the trio reached after subduing the security forces in their path. With no concrete plan at this juncture, Gault received a call from Hylo Visz, who was inquiring about their progress and became aware of their predicament. Hylo then piloted a small shuttle to the side of the Gilded Star, enabling Gault, Vette, and the Commander to jump directly onto it. Aboard the vessel, the Commander suggested returning to Odessen, while the rest of their team accompanied them aboard Beniko's tanker. Meanwhile, Vaylin reached the vault and contacted Arcann, believing she had arrived in time to thwart the robbers and expressing her anger at her mother for impersonating her. Her fury intensified upon discovering the ship's vault empty.

Upon their safe return to Odessen, during a small celebration, Gault intended to distribute everyone's share himself, but Hylo, drawing on her past experiences with him, refused. She personally paid the Devaronian, Vette, and Dretcher, deducting the amount Rennow still owed her from his portion. What remained was more than sufficient to finance the Alliance's operations, and Gault proposed that the Alliance Commander invest the excess in one of his schemes. Subsequently, Vette announced her decision to remain and join the Alliance's cause, followed by Gault, who saw it as an opportunity to spend more time with Hylo. The celebration was interrupted by the return of Aric Jorgan and Kaliyo Djannis from the mission to the hyperwave relay station, which had ended in failure. The two had managed to escape Zakuul with a database on the GEMINI droids, although four of Havoc Squad's six members had perished in the process. Hoping to salvage the situation, Beniko instructed SCORPIO to analyze the data archive.
Upon her return to Zakuul, Vaylin began to dwell on revenge against her mother, but Arcann interrupted her rant by inquiring whether she remembered Senya from their childhood. Vaylin reiterated her belief that Senya had hated and controlled her due to her superior power. She then questioned her brother about the repercussions when the rest of the galaxy learned of the insult they had suffered, but Arcann assured her that the riches could be replaced and the fear of his retaliation would deter any potential uprisings.
While the mission itself offers limited gameplay variation, "Chapter 13: Profit and Plunder" presents the player with a choice regarding the disposition of the heist's surplus finances. The option yielding the most Light Side points involves siding with Vette and redistributing the surplus to the worlds plundered by Arcann, earning approval from Senya Tirall and disapproval from Gault and SCORPIO. An option with fewer Light Side points entails siding with Hylo Visz and investing all the credits into expanding the Alliance and overthrowing Arcann, garnering the approval of SCORPIO and Lana Beniko. The Dark Side option involves siding with Gault, incurring disapproval from Vette and Senya, in which case Gault will later send the player a letter explaining that he extended a substantial loan to his associate named Vel in anticipation of a significant return.
