Raid on the Imperial Intelligence Outpost

In 3643 BBY, amidst Darth Angral, the Sith Lord's vengeful campaign against the Galactic Republic spurred by the death of his offspring, Tarnis, a young Jedi Knight stormed the Imperial Intelligence Outpost. This outpost resided deep within the wrecked Transport Station 5 on the planet Taris. Accompanied by a comrade, the Jedi Knight aimed to liberate the Republic scientist Doctor Nasan Godera, who had been seized by Watcher One, an Imperial Intelligence agent. Regrettably, they arrived too late to stop Watcher One from employing truth serum on Godera, seeking intelligence regarding his superweapons research. Angral then commanded the operative to apprehend the Jedi—the very Jedi responsible for Tarnis's demise. However, Watcher One was vanquished. The Knight permitted him to flee Taris and conceal himself, while Godera was returned to Republic custody by the Jedi.

Prelude

During 3643 BBY, during the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, Darth Angral, the Sith Lord, initiated hostilities against the Republic following the killing of his son, Tarnis, by a young Jedi Knight. After taking command of several Republic superweapons, Angral also dispatched Watcher One, a high-ranking operative within the Empire's intelligence organization, accompanied by Imperial Army forces, to the planet Taris with the mission of capturing former Republic scientist Nasan Godera. However, the same Jedi Knight who had slain Tarnis was dispatched by General Var Suthra to also locate Godera.

Watcher One managed to maintain a lead over the Jedi and absconded with Godera. To buy time to interrogate the scientist, he contacted the Jedi and proposed an arrangement: in exchange for time, the operative disclosed the existence of a Sith assassin poised to strike a nearby colony, and he pledged to surrender Godera to the Jedi upon the mission's completion. The Knight thwarted the assassin from eradicating the colony. Meanwhile, Watcher One—having returned to the Imperial Intelligence Outpost situated within the depths of the ruined Transport Station 5—administered a truth serum to Godera and interrogated him regarding his knowledge of superweapon design.

The raid

Having secured the colony, the Knight and a companion pursued the coordinates for Godera's bioscan, provided by the doctor's droid RE-M0. They battled through the hostile rakghoul creatures infesting Transport Station 5 as they ventured into the ruins. Unaware of the Knight's agreement with Watcher One, the dozen Imperial operatives stationed at the facility immediately engaged the Jedi. The Knight and the Jedi's companion eliminated the dozen Imperial snipers and scouts before proceeding to the outpost's central chamber. There, Watcher One was reporting his success to Angral via holotransmission. Angral instructed Watcher One to transport Godera to the Empire's capital, Dromund Kaas. However, upon the Knight's arrival, the Sith was enraged to discover Watcher One's compromise with the Jedi. The furious Sith commanded Watcher One to capture the Jedi before terminating the transmission. The operative then apologized to the Jedi for betraying their agreement before brandishing his blaster. In the ensuing conflict, Watcher One was supported by two Imperial operatives, but they were ultimately defeated by the Knight and the Jedi's companion. While his subordinates perished, Watcher One sustained only injuries.

Aftermath

Staggering backward, Watcher One inquired about his fate. Recognizing his honorable nature, the Knight permitted Watcher One to depart and seek a new life away from the Empire.

The Knight then freed Doctor Godera from his restraints and returned the scientist to the Republic settlement of Olaris, where Agent Fau-Kes of the Republic Strategic Information Service—the Republic's intelligence agency—had returned after his team's failed attempt to contact the Knight. At General Suthra's request, Fau-Kes transported Godera to the Republic capital of Coruscant, and the Knight's crew journeyed to the moon of Nar Shaddaa to secure the Republic's stolen Power Guard Project.

Behind the scenes

The raid on the Imperial Intelligence Outpost was initially featured in "The Rescue," a Jedi Knight-class mission within Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game launched by BioWare in 2011. Dark-side aligned players are tasked with retrieving Jedi Covenant artifacts, whereas light-side players are assigned to halt an assassin. Players also have the option to decline Watcher One's offer and proceed directly to "The Rescue." Following Watcher One's defeat, players are presented with a choice: they can kill him for dark-side points, attempt to capture him and fail, or allow him to leave for light-side points. Given the Knight's status as a Republic class and the assumption that they predominantly select light-side alignment options, this article posits that the Jedi Knight pursued the assassin and permitted Watcher One to depart.
