Raid on the Tythos Ridge shield generator

During the Flesh Raider uprising, which took place on the Deep Core world of Tython during the Cold War, Jedi Master Orgus Din's apprentice received orders to deactivate a shield generator situated in the Tythos Ridge. This region was under the control of the hostile native Flesh Raiders. While a Jedi strike force readied itself to assault the natives' command base, which was being protected by the shield generator, Din's Padawan journeyed into the Ridge mountains with the purpose of locating and shutting down the shield. Successfully battling through the Flesh Raider forces, the apprentice disabled the shield, which then enabled Din to lead the strike against the command base.

Prelude

In the year 3643 BBY, as the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire neared its conclusion, the Flesh Raiders native to the Jedi Order's homeworld of Tython initiated attacks in larger numbers. This was due to the influence of two Dark Jedi, namely Bengel Morr and Callef. During the Great Galactic War, Morr, a Nautolan apprentice of Jedi Master Orgus Din, had been present within the Jedi Temple during the Sacking of Coruscant, and subsequently lost his sanity after witnessing the extensive destruction. Presumed dead after his body went unrecovered, Morr instead turned to the dark side and took Callef as his apprentice. For the subsequent decade, the two plotted the Jedi's downfall, manipulating the Flesh Raiders to turn against the Order.

Din's new apprentice, who had previously killed Callef during an earlier encounter, was dispatched by Din to the ancient temple ruins of Kaleth in order to investigate recent activity in the area. The Padawan had also rescued an astromech droid known as T7-O1 while recovering weapons for the Pilgrims residing in Kalikori village. The droid had recorded a hooded figure issuing commands to Callef. Orgus Din recognized the figure, but chose not to reveal their identity to his apprentice before sending the Padawan to Kaleth.

While present at Kaleth, the Padawan encountered Force-wielding Flesh Raiders and was compelled to defeat them when they launched an attack. Master Bela Kiwiiks, who had arrived as reinforcement for the Padawan, was alarmed upon discovering that the leader possessed a holocron. She then instructed the apprentice to install security cameras in the surrounding area so the Order could monitor any potential return of the natives. Subsequently, Din contacted the Padawan via holocomm, instructing the apprentice to return to Kalikori village.

The raid

The Tythos Ridge

Upon the Padawan's arrival, Din disclosed information he had previously withheld: the identity of Callef's master, Bengel Morr. However, Morr was not the immediate concern. Ranna Tao'Ven, a Twi'lek and the daughter of the gravely ill Matriarch Sumari, had received intelligence from her scouts regarding the location of a Flesh Raider command base within the Tythos Ridge mountains, an area under native control. Unfortunately for the Jedi, the base was situated several miles away and was being protected by a shield generator. This shield generator was located within a cave system on a nearby mountain, and the shield needed to be deactivated before the Jedi could launch their attack.

Din assigned his Padawan the task of disabling the shield, while he assembled a team of Jedi to eliminate the base. Departing from the village, the apprentice navigated through the Flesh Raider-infested terrain of the Tythos Ridge, advancing along the mountain paths towards the cave housing the generator. Despite the presence of numerous Flesh Raiders and a trained manka cat within the cave, the Padawan successfully defeated their chieftain and reached the generator console. However, immediately after deactivating the shield, the Padawan was contacted by Bengel Morr himself.

Aftermath

Bengel Morr contacts the Padawan

Morr informed the Padawan of his interest in the young Jedi, but expressed his confidence that his plans were unstoppable. The Nautolan also revealed his motivation for instigating the uprising: mirroring his apprentice Callef, he believed the Jedi Order had grown weak and required replacement. Morr and Callef were training the Flesh Raiders with the intention of destroying the Order and rebuilding it into a stronger entity. This reformed Order would then be capable of engaging the Sith and eradicating them entirely. Despite the Padawan's efforts to persuade Morr to seek healing, the Dark Jedi terminated the transmission. Concerned about Morr's plans, the Padawan quickly returned to Kalikori Village to locate Master Din and deliver a warning.

Behind the scenes

The raid targeting the Tythos Ridge shield generator is featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game launched by BioWare on December 20, 2011. The raid depicts the events of the Jedi Knight class story mission titled "The Face of the Enemy". In this mission, the player is dispatched by Orgus Din, Ranna Tao'Ven, and Moorint to the Tythos Ridge with the objective of shutting down the shield generator, thereby enabling the Jedi to attack the Flesh Raider base located on a separate mountain. Following the deactivation of the shield and the conversation with Morr, the subsequent stage of the quest involves returning to Kalikori Village to find Din.
