Rescue of Zander Freemaker

In the year 3 ABY, a rescue operation was launched by the Freemakers alongside Naare. Their objective was to free Zander Freemaker from captivity aboard the Imperial-class Star Destroyer known as the Vendetta. Zander's capture by the Galactic Empire occurred after he impulsively commandeered Wick Cooper's N-1 starfighter for an unauthorized flight. Despite a confrontation with the Sith Lord Darth Vader, the Freemakers and Naare successfully returned to the Wheel with both Zander and the stolen N-1 starfighter.

Prelude

Wick Cooper's N-1 starfighter

During the period of the Galactic Civil War, the Freemakers operated a repair shop located at the Wheel space station within the Abrion system. Zander Freemaker, a known enthusiast of starships and an avid racer, found himself in a predicament. Following the skirmish that occurred on the Rancor's Fist, the Freemakers accepted a commission from the affluent Wick Cooper to perform maintenance on his vintage N-1 starfighter. Overwhelmed by his fascination with the classic starfighter, Zander impulsively decided to take the craft for an unsanctioned test run.

His impromptu flight led him directly into an active conflict zone, a dogfight between Imperial and Rebel Alliance starfighters. Consequently, Zander's N-1 starfighter was seized by the Imperial Star Destroyer known as the Vendetta. Before his confinement in the brig, Zander managed to establish contact with his siblings, Kordi and Rowan Freemaker, informing them of his arrest for meddling in Imperial affairs.

Zander's predicament introduced complications for Kordi and Rowan, who were already dealing with an increasingly impatient Mr. Cooper. Kordi enlisted the services of their B1-series battle droid butler, Roger, to keep Cooper occupied while she sought assistance from Naare, the undercover Sith agent. Initially, Naare hesitated to help, suggesting that Zander's absence would simply reduce their expenses. However, Roger, viewing the situation as a challenge to his capabilities, successfully persuaded Naare to join their cause. The Freemakers then embarked on a journey to the Vendetta concealed within a Class-D cargo container, while Naare traveled separately in her starship, the Eclipse Fighter.

The rescue

The Freemakers successfully gained entry into the Vendetta's hangar by utilizing a transponder, while Naare provided the necessary clearance codes. Rowan and Zander navigated the corridors of the Star Destroyer, eventually encountering two stormtroopers. However, Naare intervened by using a lightsaber to slice open the floor, incapacitating the guards. Together, the Freemakers and Naare proceeded towards the brig. Naare confidently walked past two Imperial officers, who recognized her and permitted her passage without interference. When Rowan inquired about her ability to bypass them, Naare claimed to have employed a mind trick to conceal her true identity as a Jedi.

In the meantime, Darth Vader himself was overseeing Zander's interrogation, suspecting him of being a rebel. Zander quickly admitted that he was a Freemaker and a starship mechanic. Concluding that Zander was either exceptionally resistant to interrogation or simply unintelligent, Vader departed from Zander's cell. In his absence, the Freemakers and Naare liberated him. As they made their way back to the hangar, they unexpectedly encountered Darth Vader and a contingent of stormtroopers. Naare discreetly slipped away through the garbage chute, leaving the Freemakers to confront the Sith Lord on their own.

The Freemakers attempted to convince Vader that they were merely ship repair technicians. Vader remained unconvinced until Zander mentioned his unauthorized flight in an N-1 starfighter. Upon seeing the N-1 starfighter, Vader succumbed to his impulses and took the ship for a joyride. He was promptly pursued by several TIE fighters, which he subsequently destroyed. Rowan then utilized a comlink to instruct the tractor beam projector to pull the N-1 fighter, along with Vader, back into the hangar.

Vader found himself surrounded by stormtroopers, who initially sought to apprehend the "suspected" rebel. However, they quickly apologized upon recognizing their master. While Vader punished the stormtroopers by using the Force to force them into awkward positions, the Freemakers and Naare made their escape on their respective ships, including the N-1 starfighter.

Aftermath

Wick Cooper, receiving the Blazemaker as restitution

Upon their return to the Freemaker Garage, Wick Cooper's N-1 starfighter malfunctioned. Cooper, enraged by the situation, demanded compensation from the Freemakers. In response, Kordi compelled Zander to relinquish his prized Blazemaker prototype to Cooper as restitution. Cooper took the ship for a joyride, but it quickly exploded due to Zander's neglect in repairing the fusion tubes. Cooper survived the incident and threatened to sue the Freemakers. Despite this unpleasant experience, Cooper returned to the Freemaker Garage and requested their services for his speeder bike. He also cautioned Zander against causing any further damage to his property.
