Rohlan Dyre, who was also known as the Questioner, was a Human male Crusader of the Mandalorian race and a former commander who participated in the early battles of the Mandalorian Wars. He repeatedly abandoned the conflict in an effort to understand the true nature of the war. Following the battle on the planet of Vanquo in 3964 BBY, Dyre deserted the Mandalorians yet again and allied himself with the Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick, the Snivvian con artist Marn Hierogryph, and the crew of The Last Resort in order to free the female Arkanian Offshoot Jarael from Flashpoint Station, a derelict Republic research facility. The Mandalorian scientist Demagol was using the station as a base while conducting experiments on captured Jedi Knights.
After Dyre, along with Carrick and his companions, rescued Jarael and the Revanchist Jedi from the Mandalorians, Demagol, whom Dyre had previously incapacitated, rendered Dyre unconscious. The scientist then assumed Dyre's identity and traveled with Carrick's group. Encased in Demagol's armor, Dyre was transported to Coruscant, the galactic capital, by the Jedi Knight Alek and his Jedi colleagues to face judgment. During the journey to Coruscant, Dyre slipped into a drug-induced coma. Eventually, Dyre awoke and was put on trial for the crimes Demagol had committed against the Republic. During the proceedings, Alek, now known as Malak, testified against the man he believed to be Demagol. As a riot began to erupt, Zayne Carrick and Marn Hierogryph rescued Dyre when they realized that the Mandalorian they had been traveling with was not, in fact, Rohlan Dyre. The two requested Dyre's assistance in stopping Demagol, who was now with Jarael after she had left Carrick and his crew. He agreed, accompanying them to Osadia to confront Demagol. Following Demagol's death in the confrontation, Rohlan assisted Zayne in locating Jarael's parents before disappearing once more.

As an aging Human and seasoned Mandalorian Crusader veteran, Rohlan Dyre started to doubt the strategies employed by the Mandalorians and the motivations driving the war. When Rohlan voiced his concerns to his superiors, he was not given a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, the next time he was summoned, he refused to respond. Dyre was discovered, and as retribution for his desertion, he was positioned on the front lines of the war. Rohlan persisted in his refusal to fight and was apprehended and placed on the front lines on five separate occasions. His final assignment was as the Commander of the Shocktrooper forces during the Battle of Vanquo. After his troops captured Jarael, believing her to be a Jedi, he personally commandeered The Last Resort in an attempt to escape.
However, an enraged Camper stunned Rohlan, which allowed Zayne Carrick to easily subdue him, confining him within a cargo container. When Rohlan overheard his captors mentioning that they were heading into Mandalorian territory, he offered his assistance as a guide and explained his situation and their destination: Flashpoint Station, where Jarael and several actual Jedi were being held captive.

Rohlan escorted Zayne to Flashpoint Station, posing as a prisoner. Upon their arrival, Demagol, a deranged Mandalorian scientist obsessed with uncovering the secrets behind the Jedi's ability to wield the Force, was preparing to conduct experiments on Jarael. Rohlan, however, insisted that Zayne be the next "subject." Demagol agreed, and Rohlan overpowered the scientist. Demagol was then locked inside a storage closet, and Zayne donned his armor. Rohlan and Zayne exited the facility, and Zayne, utilizing the Force, discreetly planted explosives at strategic structural points. When Marn Hierogryph, disguised as a Republic Admiral of the "Glomkettle," arrived, Carrick detonated the charges, forcing the Mandalorians to evacuate. Rohlan instructed the Mandalorians to inform Mandalore that he had perished with the facility while attempting to "rescue" Demagol. Rohlan then re-entered the facility to retrieve Demagol. However, the Mandalorian scientist had regained consciousness, drugged Rohlan, and switched armors with him.
After the Mandalorians departed, Demagol, now disguised as Rohlan, pretended to leave with the freed Jedi but secretly disembarked the vessel at the last moment and stowed away aboard The Last Resort as it departed the station, intending to remain close to Jarael. Following the Mandalorians' escape (due to their belief that the Republic was attacking), Rohlan, who was now believed to be Demagol, was transported back to Coruscant by the previously captured Jedi. However, during the journey to Coruscant, he fell into a drug-induced coma and could not be awakened for trial.

Upon arriving on Coruscant, "Demagol" was examined by a nurse after he finally regained consciousness. Rohlan began to mutter about the search for the Jedi at Flashpoint. Startled, the nurse summoned the guards to immediately report this information to the Ministry of Defense.
Alek Squinquargesimus, now known throughout the galaxy as Malak, brought "Demagol" to the Ministry of Defense for trial. He sought to ensure that the sadistic scientist was brought to justice, unaware that the man he was prosecuting had aided in his rescue at Flashpoint.
During the trial, Malak began to recount "Demagol's" atrocities to the audience. Rohlan demanded that he stop calling him by that name and broke free from his restraints. Malak used the Force to hurl Rohlan across the chamber, declaring that they would defeat the Mandalorians. Rohlan retorted that Malak could not defeat his people in a fair fight, questioning that if the prosecuting Jedi did save the Republic, then who would save it from Malak himself. An enraged crowd attacked, forcing security guards to rush Rohlan out of the building. After placing him on a speeder, the guards revealed themselves to be Zayne and Gryph. The pair had realized the identity switch and needed Rohlan's assistance in rescuing Jarael from Demagol.
Hiding in a garage owned by Zayne, Rohlan explained to both Zayne and Gryph what he had learned about Demagol. He also expressed his disgust when Zayne informed him about how Demagol had sold his own daughter, Chantique, into slavery and vowed to obliterate the mad scientist. Zayne then presented Rohlan with a replica of his armor, which had been marketed after Demagol won swoop-dueling in his place, as it would provide him with greater maneuverability. Subsequently, Zayne introduced everyone to the Rogue Moon Project Command, a group Zayne had formed to assist the common people, where they hoped to discover where Demagol had taken Jarael. At that moment, Gryph's servant Slyssk recalled a tag that he had found while cleaning. Zayne and Gryph identified it as a tag from one of the Sith Artifacts. They realized that Demagol had removed the double-bladed lightsaber of Exar Kun from its nullification resin and brought it with him—and Jarael. Zayne realized that the lightsaber could corrupt the Force-sensitive Jarael and determined to find Osadia, the planet of Demagol's school/laboratory and of Jarael's birth. Unfortunately, Rohlan insisted that even he couldn't find out the location of Osadia. Zayne realized that Dace Golliard, a member of The Crucible, knew where it was. He told Rohlan to call Cassus Fett before it was too late.

Rohlan contacted Cassus for assistance with Zayne's plan. Cassus agreed, on the condition that Rohlan maintained a low profile (the Mandalorians were using tales of Rohlan's "death" as recruitment propaganda). The Mandalorian fleet lured Admiral Saul Karath to an asteroid field close to the Ithor system before swiftly vacating the field. Once they could properly capture Golliard and gain Osadia's coordinates.
Upon Zayne and company's arrival on Osadia, Rohlan flew Zayne on his subpar jetpack to the New Generation Academy, where Zayne interrupted a brawl between Jarael and Chantique, preventing the former from killing the latter. Rohlan thoroughly beat Demagol, calling him dar'manda, declaring him to be "no true Mandalorian", and that he had no right to armor, "let alone mine". However, Demagol used the Force to push Rohlan through a column, surprising both. Rohlan eventually regained consciousness and went out into the grounds to see Demagol on his knees, shocked that Chantique had buried and killed his students. Rohlan corroborated Zayne's argument that Jarael was not Force-sensitive by pointing out that Demagol used the Force to throw him away and had been unwittingly using it throughout his travels with Zayne. Chantique interrupted the argument by leaping at her father with a vibroknife. Demagol used the Force to pull the lightsabers of Zayne and Exar Kun to him, gambling on a supposed "50-50 chance" of getting the right one (Zayne's) and not getting impaled. As both Chantique and Demagol lay dying after being impaled on Exar Kun's double-bladed lightsaber, Zayne pointed out that around him, there was no such thing as a 50-50 chance. Rohlan returned with Zayne and Jarael to Coruscant, where the former arranged for the latter to be reunited with her parents (assisted by Rohlan). As Jarael embraced her parents, Rohlan vanished into thin air, presumably to return to his mission of discovering the true reason behind the war.
According to John Jackson Miller, the name Rohlan "is partially inspired by the similarly sounding name of another warrior, the paladin of Charlemagne."
The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett includes a depiction of an individual wearing an armor similar in appearance to Rohlan's. The individual is shown near two assassin droids matching 4-LOM and IG-88.
