This order was given after the trio successfully evacuated a group of rebel leaders hiding underground, transporting them away from the planet Giju. The pilots also overcame Imperial TIE fighters in the skies above the planet. Narra departed first, followed by Antilles, and lastly Skywalker. Before jumping to hyperspace, Skywalker had his astromech droid R2-D2 program his navigation computer with the jump coordinates for the planet Devaron.
The scatter protocol was initially introduced in The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure, a 2015 novel penned by Jason Fry. The protocol's first visual depiction occurred in first part of the comic book adaptation of the aforementioned novel. Alec Worley wrote the adaptation, Ruairí Coleman provided the illustrations, and it was published in Star Wars - Magazin 19 on March 29, 2017. The comic adaptation presents a modified version of Arhul Narra's dialogue concerning the scatter protocol.
