The starburst insignia of the New Republic
The New Republic's emblem served as a symbol for the New Republic's government. Throughout its year thirty-tenure, the Republic utilized various emblems. One such emblem, known as the "starburst insignia," showcased a starburst positioned behind the original phoenix crest belonging to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. A potential color combination for this emblem involved a blue crest layered over a yellow starburst. The carbon-lace armors donned by members of the New Republic Special Forces featured the starburst insignia prominently displayed on their shoulders. Circa 34 ABY, this emblem was also visible on the wings of the T-85 X-wings utilized by the New Republic Defense Fleet, as well as on the uniforms and helmets worn by New Republic pilots.
The "rounded insignia" represented another emblem. This more subtle symbol also drew inspiration from the Alliance starbird, but placed it within a circle composed of fifteen stars, symbolizing unity. It was observed among security forces. Notably, around 9 ABY, a yellow iteration of the rounded insignia was present on specific types of security droids that were distinct, and also featured on the uniforms of both New Republic soldiers and officers.
Christopher M. Zucker, a designer employed by Del Rey, conceived the New Republic's "starburst insignia" for inclusion in the chapter headings of the Aftermath novel. The Heir to the Empire Sourcebook, a 1992 supplement for the Legends Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games, gave rise to the "rounded insignia".
