During the Galactic Civil War in 5 ABY, Hera Syndulla, a General of the New Republic, and her forces aboard the Star Destroyer Deliverance were still engaged in their hunt targeting the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. They successfully tracked both the fighter wing and the bulk freighter Yadeez to the G'Tep'Noi system, which resulted in a short skirmish between the two forces.
Upon arrival at the designated system, the New Republic's path to the 204th was obstructed by an asteroid field. Wyl Lark, a Commander, took the lead, guiding the more agile starfighters of Wild Squadron through the asteroid field to forge a path. Meanwhile, Flare Squadron and Hail Squadron, composed of slower fighters and bombers, remained behind. Approaching their target, the 204th exposed themselves to an attack when the bulk freighter Yadeez began its departure from the asteroid field, preparing to jump to lightspeed. Lark issued the order to attack, with Flare and Hail Squadrons positioning themselves on either side of him, while Wild Squadron readied to flank the bulk freighter. Unexpectedly, Yrica Quell, a Lieutenant and former Alphabet Leader who had turned traitor, announced over the comms her allegiance to the 204th, warning the New Republic forces to retreat or face destruction. This revelation surprised the New Republic forces, especially the members of Alphabet Squadron, who believed her to be dead following the 204th's attack on Cerberon. Quell fired warning shots at Lark, and amidst the ensuing confusion, she boarded her TIE on the freighter. However, it was too late for Flare and Hail Squadrons to intercept, and the Yadeez once again vanished into hyperspace.
