Son's cathedral

Within the strange dimension of Mortis, situated within Wild Space, stood the Son's cathedral, a unique structure that served as the personal domain of the Son, a Force wielder who was related to the Father and Daughter as their offspring and sibling, respectively. During the era of the Clone War, this family chose to live as hermits on Mortis, due to their immense power being too great for the regular world.

Overview

The Son designed and constructed the Cathedral to be his own personal fortress and dwelling. The tower, built from a dark, light-absorbing stone, had a circular foundation reminiscent of a colossal beast's ribcage. At the very top of the tower was a vibrant green sphere, and the interior was composed of cells and hidden dungeons located down a series of confusing hallways. Surrounding the main tower were smaller towers, interconnected by a courtyard. The Son's throne room was located in the middle of the main tower.

History

After Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight and the Chosen One, completed a trial, he declined to remain on Mortis and take over the role of the Father, who was in the process of dying, in maintaining the equilibrium of the Force on that planet. The Son, motivated by a desire to escape Mortis and unleash chaos upon the galaxy, abducted Ahsoka Tano, Skywalker's Padawan, and confined her within his tower. There, he disguised himself as a creature of prison and weakened the Togruta's spirit, making her vulnerable to the influence of the dark side of the Force through his bite, which corrupted her mind.

Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, and the Daughter journeyed to the Altar of Mortis and acquired the Mortis Dagger, intending to use it to eliminate the Son and thwart his plans. Upon arriving at the Son's cathedral, Kenobi attempted to assist Skywalker, who was engaged in a duel with the corrupted Tano. Inside the cathedral, the Son battled his sister, employing Force lightning and his gargoyle form in an effort to overpower her. However, before he could succeed, the Father entered the Son's tower and subdued both of his children, only for the Son to regain control and weaken the Father.

Before Kenobi could hand the dagger to Skywalker for use against the Son, Tano, under the dark side's influence, seized the weapon and successfully delivered it to the Son. Having outlived her usefulness, the Son eliminated Tano, before attempting to use the dagger to kill the Father in his cathedral's courtyard. The Daughter intervened, however, and was killed in his stead. Overcome with grief at the loss of his sister, who was the only one he truly cared for, the Son fled his cathedral in a fit of rage. The Daughter used her remaining life force to resurrect Ahsoka Tano, while the Father urged the Jedi to depart from Mortis, which had become unbalanced due to the Daughter's demise.

Behind the scenes

The Son's cathedral was initially featured in season three of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Its design serves as an homage to the black tower of Orthanc from the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which resembled the staff of the wizard Saruman in the film. Coincidentally, Christopher Lee, who portrayed Saruman, also played Count Dooku in the Star Wars film series, inspiring Dave Filoni, the supervising director of The Clone Wars, to include this tribute to the actor's role.
