Sturm Umbrik was a Jedi affiliated with the Jedi Order, fulfilling the role of a Pathfinder Jedi while serving on the Outer Rim Exploration Team during expedition oh-four-seven. Their mission involved locating the moon known as Shara'Tam, rumored to hold a valuable artifact. On this moon, Umbrik came across a significant statue and eagerly shared this discovery, along with its location, with Janssen, a member of the expedition's communications team. The message also confirmed Umbrik and Janssen's theory that the system was once inhabited by a sentient race, urging for immediate assistance. However, a pirate attack led to Umbrik's death, and the team's EX droid was passed down through generations of a member of the team's family.
The story of Umbrik, Shara'Tam, and the treasure circulated among prospectors for centuries afterward, but the whereabouts of the EX droid remained unknown, turning it into a legendary tale. During the era of the Galactic Republic, the EX droid became a highly coveted item when Servit, a Mirialan descendant of the aforementioned individual, inadvertently revealed it to a crew who knew its history and attempted to seize it. This led to a blaster fight within Dex's Diner, a restaurant located on the planet Coruscant. Following the altercation, the combatants played Umbrik's holorecording on the droid, which also contained the coordinates for Shara'Tam. After Dexter Jettster, the diner's owner, misled their adversaries into believing that the moon was situated in the destroyed Ishram system, Servit embarked on a journey to Shara'Tam.
Sturm Umbrik made an appearance via hologram in "Galactic Tales: Inheritance," a short story featured in the Galactic Tales series. George Mann authored the story, which was published in the 211th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine on June 7, 2022.
