Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith #6 represents the concluding chapter, issue six, of the Star Wars Legends comic book miniseries titled Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith. Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson penned the story, while Art Wetherell provided the illustrations. Dark Horse Comics initially released it on March 14, 1995.
The narrative, titled "Jedi Assault," centers on the confrontation between Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma as they vie for the position of Dark Lord of the Sith.
In this final, groundbreaking issue, Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun, both Jedi who have turned rogue, engage in a battle to the death. The victor will claim the title of Dark Lord of the Sith, the most formidable and feared figure in the galaxy; the loser might simply find their final resting place. The fate of the entire galaxy hangs in the balance!
On the world of Ossus, Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma and Dace Diath are putting the new Star Saber XC-01 starfighters through their paces amidst the arid mountains near Knossa Spaceport. During their evaluation flight, Dace's starfighter collides with a rocky spire, though he manages to survive. Concluding that the starfighters require further refinement, the Jedi Knights express reservations about using them for their impending mission to Cinnagar.
Upon their return to base, they encounter fellow Jedi Nomi Sunrider, Tott Doneeta, Shoaneb Culu, Qrrrl Toq, and Oss Wilum, accompanied by their Beast Rider comrade Oron Kira and his winged drexl creatures. Before embarking on their assignment, Cay and Nomi consult with several Jedi Masters, including Thon and Vodo-Siosk Baas. Thon suggests allowing Ulic Qel-Droma to face the repercussions of his actions, while Vodo believes it is unwise to force anyone towards the light side. Despite their misgivings, the Jedi Masters authorize Nomi and Cay's undertaking.
On Cinnagar, [Aleema Keto](/article/aleema_keto] presents Ulic, still recovering from Satal Keto's stabbing, with the Sith talisman given to them by Freedon Nadd on Onderon. Simultaneously, Sith Lord Exar Kun, accompanied by two Massassi warriors, secretly enters Cinnagar. His amulet is drawn to Ulic's new amulet. Before he can confront his dark side adversaries, a Jedi strike force consisting of four Star Saber starfighters and an Onderon warbeast transport launches an assault on Cinnagar.
Piloting the Star Sabers, Wilum, Dace, and Shoaneb eliminate several Tetan artillery emplacements. Reaching their destination, Cay and Nomi, along with Beast Riders and their drexl mounts, advance towards the Iron Citadel. The Jedi and Beast Riders battle their way into the royal chambers, where Nomi attempts to persuade Ulic to return with them.
Aleema utilizes Sith illusions, but they prove ineffective against Nomi. Nomi implores Ulic to leave, confessing her love for him. Meanwhile, the Jedi Star Saber starfighters face an attack from Tetan CX-133 Chaos fighters. During the aerial combat, Wilum spots Exar Kun, whom he recognizes as a Jedi, approaching the Iron Citadel.
Cay and Nomi try to reason with Ulic, but he asserts that the Jedi are too weak to withstand the Sith. Still denying his allegiance to the dark side, Ulic demands their departure. Cay argues that Ulic is under the influence of Sith poison. Ulic resists Nomi's battle meditation and repels her with his Sith amulet.
Cay, Qrrl, and a Beast Rider attempt to forcibly take Ulic, but Nomi chooses to respect his decision, heeding the Jedi Masters' counsel. Cay is reluctant to abandon his brother to the dark side, but Nomi insists that they must allow him to experience the consequences of his choices. Cay reluctantly accepts Nomi's decision, and the Jedi and Beast Riders leave Ulic with Aleema. Before their departure, Shoaneb shoots down a Chaos fighter.
After the Jedi and Beast Riders have departed, Ulic reveals to Aleema that he initially intended to destroy the Krath to avenge his Master Arca Jeth's death. Aleema retorts that she saw through his plan and thanks Ulic for choosing her over Nomi. Ulic expresses remorse for hurting Cay and the other Jedi but remains committed to his dark path. While acknowledging Ulic's desire for revenge, Aleema is enamored with him, and they embrace.
They are ambushed by Exar Kun and his Massassi warriors, whom Ulic identifies as the Sith pretender that Freedon Nadd had cautioned them about. Kun incapacitates Aleema with Force lightning and engages Ulic in a lightsaber duel. Kun condemns Ulic as a misguided Jedi, while Ulic denounces Kun as a Dark Jedi.
However, the proximity of their Sith amulets triggers a surge of Sith magic, summoning the spirits of several ancient Sith Lords, who command an end to the conflict. The leading Sith Lord proclaims Exar Kun as Dark Lord of the Sith and appoints Ulic as his Sith apprentice. The ancient Sith Lord tasks Kun and Ulic with enacting the Sith's vengeance upon the Galactic Republic. Aleema awakens to find Kun and Ulic allied.
Within this issue, the character later recognized as Marka Ragnos is depicted amidst ships engaged in combat, stating, "In my era, even as the Galactic Republic battles us to extinction." Furthermore, the comic's narration identifies him as "the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith" during "a period when the Sith people were being driven to extinction by the Jedi Knights and the armies of the Galactic Republic." However, Tales of the Jedi – The Golden Age of the Sith 2 commences with Marka Ragnos's death before the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire establish contact.
In Dark Lords of the Sith #6, Exar Kun realizes he recognizes the long-deceased Sith, having seen his mummified remains on Korriban, suggesting his presence on one of the thrones within the Great Temple visited by Kun in Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith 3. Nevertheless, The Golden Age of the Sith #2 later establishes that the Tomb of Marka Ragnos was located elsewhere, implying that Kun either misidentified a Dark Lord or explored multiple tombs during his time on Korriban.
