The Clone Wars: Headgames

The Clone Wars: Headgames is a piece of the webcomic series that is a companion to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series'. This six-page webcomic, which was made available on StarWars.com on January 15, 2009, was authored by Pablo Hidalgo, with illustrations by Tom Hodges and lettering by Grant Gould. In 2010, Dreams and Visions Press and Dark Horse Comics compiled the comic into a trade paperback called Star Wars: Tales from The Clone Wars Webcomic Collection Season 1.

The storyline of The Clone Wars: Headgames happens before the events of the episode "Jedi Crash," and it showcases Jedi Knight Aayla Secura along with several clone troopers acquiring the head of a tactical droid to extract potentially crucial data.

Storyline Synopsis

In the year 22 BBY, the Galactic Republic finds one of its information bunkers under threat from the Confederacy of Independent Systems. A tactical droid leads Confederate forces consisting of B1-Series battle droids and B2 super battle droids towards the bunker, intending to retrieve important Republic information. However, the droid is unaware that Jedi General Aayla Secura and a squad of clone troopers under the command of Commander Bly have set up the bunker as a decoy.

The clones rejoin Aayla Secura inside the information bunker.

As the droid army advances through a canyon toward the fake bunker, Bly and the clones observe from a vantage point. Bly then communicates with Secura, informing her that the enemy has fallen for their ruse. The droids breach the bunker, only to find its data banks empty. At that moment, the clone troopers, using their jetpacks to descend into the canyon, initiate an attack on the battle droids. Bly instructs troopers Barr and Galle to eliminate the B2 super battle droids and orders trooper Inc to deploy EMP grenades against the remaining droid forces.

Meanwhile, the tactical droid retreats into the bunker, where it encounters Secura. Surprised by the presence of the Jedi, the droid is unable to activate cyberostasis to protect its memory banks before Secura uses her lightsaber to decapitate it. Consequently, the information remains accessible. Following the battle, the clones reunite with Secura inside the bunker, and she praises them for their successful completion of the mission. Secura then decides to take the tactical droid's head to her cruiser to perform a robolobotomy in an attempt to extract any valuable data.

Production

The Clone Wars: Headgames is a six-page webcomic that is part of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars webcomic series, which serves as a tie-in to the television series of the same name. In terms of chronology, the events of the comic occur before those of "Jedi Crash," an episode from the first season of the television show. In the order of publication of the webcomic series, The Clone Wars: Headgames comes after The Clone Wars: Switch and before The Clone Wars: Neighbors.

The Star Wars: Tales from the Clone Wars trade paperback collected the first-season tie-in webcomics, including The Clone Wars: Headgames.

The comic was released on StarWars.com on January 15, 2009, and its creation involved writing by Pablo Hidalgo, illustrations by Tom Hodges, and lettering by Grant Gould. Acknowledgement was also given to Sue Rostoni, the Executive Editor at Lucas Licensing; Leland Chee, the keeper of the Holocron continuity database; and Dave Filoni, the supervising director for the television show.

In 2010, The Clone Wars: Headgames, together with all of the other webcomics from the television series' inaugural season, was assembled into a trade paperback titled Star Wars: Tales from The Clone Wars Webcomic Collection Season 1. This collection was a joint effort by Dreams and Visions Press and Dark Horse Comics. It was available at the Celebration V fan event in August of that year, and for a short period afterward.

Following an announcement by Lucasfilm Ltd. on April 25, 2014, the comic is now classified as part of the non-canon Star Wars Legends continuity.

As a hidden Easter egg, the text written in Aurebesh in the lower right-hand corner of Bly's electrobinoculars encourages the reader to view The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.
