The premiere segment of the ninth episode of the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is entitled "The Princess and the Jedi." It became available for viewing on Disney+ on August 2nd, 2023.
The episode begins with Nash Durango and RJ-83 diligently cleaning the Crimson Firehawk. She is then approached by Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs, who responded to her urgent plea for assistance. Durango clarifies that she is about to collect a passenger, emphasizing the need for absolute perfection. When Brightstar inquires about the passenger's significance, Durango reveals that it's a princess whose vessel malfunctioned while she was acquiring a gift for her father on Tenoo. She expresses her apprehension, recalling past experiences where royal passengers demanded flawlessness, a standard difficult for Nash to meet.
Durango had hoped that Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs could be of assistance, given the Jedi's frequent interactions with important individuals. Brightstar assures her that he and his companions will attend to the princess, allowing Durango to focus on piloting. Subsequently, Durango pilots the Crimson Firehawk to a designated landing area, where Princess Inaya awaits alongside her droid, PD-4. Inaya's journey to Tenoo was to secure a present for her father, which is revealed to be a chest shaped like a building.
A noticeably nervous Durango introduces herself and her Jedi acquaintances to Inaya, who questions whether Jedi typically accompany dignitaries. Brightstar clarifies that they are simply assisting a friend on this occasion and introduces himself and his fellow Jedi Initiates. PD-4 assures Inaya of their safety under the Jedi's protection before guiding her onto the Firehawk. Once aboard, Durango attempts to compliment her passenger, but Inaya remains modest. Unbeknownst to the group, the pirate Taborr Val Dorn is observing them.
While aboard the Firehawk, Brightstar and his comrades volunteer to safeguard Inaya's present. In the cockpit, Inaya commends Durango's modifications to the console and the ship's smooth flight. She also expresses admiration for Durango, acknowledging her as a peer who can navigate her own ship across the galaxy. When Solay inquires if she is a pilot, Inaya shares her passion for flying and ship maintenance but expresses her dislike for being excessively catered to as a princess, as it diminishes the enjoyment of life. Durango admits that she had never considered that perspective.
As they prepare to enter hyperspace, Val Dorn appears in his starship, the Iron Talon. Via the intercom, Val Dorn demands the gift that Princess Inaya obtained for her father. Brightstar promptly shuts off the intercom, and Solay persuades Durango to attempt to evade Val Dorn's ship. Durango and RJ maneuver the Firehawk down towards the forests of Tenoo. However, the Iron Talon retaliates, disabling the Firehawk's shields and lateral controls. Durango manages to execute a crash landing atop a Tenoo tree near a waterfall. However, Taborr's gang land their ship in close proximity.
Durango informs her team that they must repair the Firehawk with haste. She instructs RJ to fix the controls while she addresses the thruster circuits. When Solay asks about her role, Durango assigns her and Brightstar the task of transferring all power units to the main thruster. Durango seeks Nub's assistance and disregards Inaya's offer to help. Nubs struggles to locate the flexscope in the tool kit, but Inaya finds it effortlessly. As Durango repairs the thruster circuits, Inaya assists by handing her the hydrospanner. Inaya also suggests that the blast may have disrupted the power couplings, but Nash dismisses the idea. When Inaya inquires about the safety of her father's present, Durango, preoccupied with the repairs, assures her that she and her friends have promised to ensure its safety.
While Durango is engrossed in the repairs, Inaya offers her assistance. Inaya overhears EB-3 instructing Pord to assist him. Inaya proceeds to the corridor but discovers that Taborr's gang has absconded with the present. She pursues them aboard the Iron Talon. Nubs, who is in the cockpit, alerts his fellow Jedi younglings and Durango. Before they can join Inaya on the Iron Talon, Taborr's gang departs in their ship. Solay deduces that Val Dorn must have stolen the present and that Inaya has gone to retrieve it. Durango expresses frustration that they are unable to rescue her due to the Firehawk's damaged state.
However, Inaya establishes contact with her friends via comlink and assures them of her well-being. Utilizing her mechanical aptitude, Inaya overrides the Iron Talon's controls, causing Val Dorn to lose command of his ship and crash near the Firehawk. Inaya also activates the Iron Talon's gangplank. The younglings board the Iron Talon to recover the gift and rescue Inaya, while Nash and RJ concentrate on repairing their ship. Inside the Iron Talon, Inaya informs Solay and her friends that she disabled Taborr's ship by overriding its controls.
Inaya manages to unlock the secondary door leading to the cockpit, where she believes her gift is being held. Inside the Iron Talon's cockpit, Brightstar attempts to use the Force to seize the present, but EB-3 inadvertently strikes the package with his leg, alerting Taborr and the gang to the Jedi's presence. With his presence exposed, Brightstar grabs the stolen present and descends a ladder before Taborr's gang can apprehend him.
Val Dorn demands the return of the stolen present, but Brightstar asserts that it belongs to Princess Inaya. Taborr jumps down the ladder and attacks them with his electrostaff. The Jedi ignite their lightsabers, while Pord and EB-3 retrieve their vibroblades. Brightstar and Nubs engage Val Dorn in a brief lightsaber duel. When Brightstar passes the present to Solay, Val Dorn commands his associates to retrieve it. Pord attempts to recover the present, but EB-3 hurls his weapon at Solay. However, the weapon boomerangs back to him, forcing EB-3 to evade his own vibroblade. Pord charges at Solay, but the Jedi maneuvers her into colliding with several crates.
Inaya reclaims her present. EB-3 charges at her, but Solay trips the droid. While Val Dorn drives the Jedi towards the gangplank, Inaya programs the gangplank to close and damages the door control. She and the Jedi manage to escape before the gangplank closes, trapping Val Dorn and his gang inside their ship.
Upon returning to the Crimson Firehawk, Durango had already repaired the damaged starship. Durango acknowledges that Inaya's suggestion regarding the disconnected power couplings was accurate. Durango apologizes for not listening, admitting that she had assumed Inaya lacked mechanical skills due to her status as a princess. Inaya reassures her that it is acceptable, as she has a passion for starships despite her royal status. Durango jests that she will be better prepared for surprises in the future.
Nash then extends an invitation to Inaya to pilot the ship, which Inaya enthusiastically accepts. Subsequently, they proceed to Inaya's father's party. Upon arriving at the celebration, Inaya asks Brightstar and his Jedi friends if they would like to join the festivities. Brightstar responds that they would be delighted to but must return to the Tenoo Jedi Temple. Inaya expresses her happiness at having friends on Tenoo. Durango invites her to fly with them again in the future. When Brightstar points out that the Firehawk is dirty, Durango playfully declares that the last one back to the ship will be responsible for cleaning it.
