Plot summary

C-3PO, the protocol droid, was in the midst of introducing both himself and R2-D2 to PTZ-1K, when Captain Raymus Antilles instructed them to resume their duties. Following Senator Bail Prestor Organa's memory wipe of C-3PO, the droid experienced difficulty in recalling R2-D2. Garsa, a Gran, handed Antilles a datapad, urging him to depart before the forces of the Imperial discovered their presence. Captain Antilles then directed 3PO to gather everyone back onto their vessel, unaware that the seeker droid was attempting to transmit a communication to the Galactic Empire. R2 observed this activity without the seeker droid's knowledge.

Shortly thereafter, aboard their ship, C-3PO expressed skepticism regarding R2-D2's account of PTZ-1K's actions. R2 responded with an insult and departed. C-3PO rejoined R2, and together they stealthily entered the cargo hold, where they discovered the seeker droid. While concealed, 3PO voiced his discontent with their undertaking, but R2 had already left him. PTZ-1K attempted to gain access to a control panel, but R2 repelled him with an electrical shock. As the astromech droid battled PTZ, Captain Antilles, accompanied by Caibol and Bonipa, arrived to investigate the commotion. They escorted 3PO and R2 away, while PTZ managed to conceal himself. Antilles dismissed 3PO's assertion that PTZ was a spy, and the captain instructed Bonipa and Caibol to tamper with the droid's minds. R2-D2 then dispersed oil across the floor, causing Bonipa and Caribol to lose their footing. R2 successfully escaped, but C-3PO remained in their custody. Caribol shoved the protocol droid into a darkened chamber where PTZ was located. C-3PO initially felt relieved to see the droid, but as the door shut, PTZ approached 3PO surreptitiously.

Caribol and Bonipa persisted in their pursuit of R2-D2 through the corridors, with Bonipa speculating that the droid had a plan as he re-entered the cargo hold. However, the astromech was not paying attention to where he was going and tumbled over the edge of the balcony, colliding with Captain Antilles below.

Meanwhile, back in the room, PTZ-1K was attempting to utilize the communications array to relay a message to the Galactic Empire. Recognizing the situation, C-3PO advised PTZ to employ a binary language for transmitting the message. The message appeared on a screen, and 3PO was pleased that a droid was heeding his advice. However, PTZ's situation deteriorated when the message transmission ceased, and 3PO revealed that the binary language was incompatible with the installed Corellian command codes. The protocol droid's deception proved effective, and Captain Antilles, along with the other droids, arrived to apprehend PTZ-1K. The captain commended C-3PO and R2-D2 for their efforts, assuring them that they would form an exceptional team.
