Tytan Latimer

Tytan Latimer, a human, worked as a security guard at Fortress Inquisitorius on the ocean moon of Nur around 9 BBY. As the chief of security for his particular level, Latimer held the rank of lieutenant. This officer was in charge of a security scanner, and he stood respectfully when the Inquisitor known as the Third Sister passed through. Later, Latimer halted the Imperial Captain Tala Durith as she attempted to go through, demanding to see her credentials. After examining her code cylinder, Latimer discovered that Durith's designated sector was not Nur. Despite this, Durith pressured Latimer into allowing her passage by threatening to report his insolence to the Grand Inquisitor and asserting that she was involved in classified operations.

Biography

During the time of the Galactic Empire, Tytan Latimer was an Imperial security guard by 9 BBY, achieving the rank of lieutenant. Latimer's post was at Fortress Inquisitorius, which served as the headquarters for the Empire's Jedi-hunting organization, the Inquisitorius. This fortress was located on the ocean moon of Nur in the Outer Rim Territories. There, he was the head of security on his level of the fortress, which was situated beneath the sea level of Nur. He manned the control station of a DeTECHt model security scanner at the end of a large concourse, which scanned for potential dangers like weapons, bombs, and dangerous materials. One day during that year, the Inquisitor Third Sister arrived at Fortress Inquisitorius. As she passed through the security scanner while Latimer was on duty, the officer stood at ease at the scanner's control station.

At a later point, Latimer was stationed at the gate when Imperial officer Tala Durith arrived at the fortress. Secretly, she was collaborating with the fugitive Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi to break out Leia Organa, the ten-year-old daughter of Imperial Senator Bail Organa, who had been imprisoned by the Third Sister. As Durith approached the security scanner, Latimer requested her identification. Durith ignored Latimer, prompting him to leave his terminal and inform her that she required clearance. In response, she claimed to have officer class C authorization.

Latimer remained firm and took Durith's code cylinder to examine it, discovering that Nur was outside her designated sector. Consequently, the security guard told Durith that he could not permit her entry. She then inquired about his rank and presented herself as his commanding officer. Furthermore, she threatened to report his insolence to the Grand Inquisitor, alleging that her supposed mission involved confidential information. Latimer became tense and hesitated, ultimately yielding to Durith's demands and allowing the officer to pass through the gate while he stood at attention.

Personality and traits

As a human, Tytan Latimer possessed light skin, blue eyes, and ginger hair. He was insistent on following identification protocols with Tala Durith, consistently denying her passage without proper clearance. He also demonstrated deference to individuals of higher rank, immediately correcting himself to address Durith as "sir" and becoming uneasy when she hinted at repercussions from the Grand Inquisitor.

Equipment

Latimer was dressed in a black Imperial officer's uniform, which included an Imperial kepi with an officer's disk, black gloves and boots, and a black belt with sections and a silver buckle that also featured an officer's disk. The security guard carried two code cylinders, positioned above each breast, and a rank insignia plaque on his left breast, displaying three blue tiles arranged horizontally.

Behind the scenes

Tytan Latimer's debut was in "Part III" of the live-action Disney+ television series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was released on June 1, 2022. Actor Joss Glennie-Smith played the character, although he was not credited until the subsequent episode, "Part IV," which aired a week later. The character's name was revealed in the 2023 reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide by Emily Shkoukani and Pablo Hidalgo. While the book was officially published on November 2 of that year, an excerpt identifying Latimer was previewed earlier at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.

In one scene in "Part IV," an Imperial officer at Fortress Inquisitorius, wearing the same uniform as Latimer but with a different rank plaque, is described in the episode's audio description as wearing the "darker uniforms of non-commissioned officers." It remains unclear whether this description also applies to Latimer.
