A phaseball team was located at the academy that the human Jon Wittick was a student at, starting in 231 BBY during the High Republic Era. Wittick played for the phaseball team while he was a student there.
In that year, following the attack on the Galactic Republic prison ship Restitution—where Wittick worked as a counselor—the counselor used a blaster rifle to knock away a scav droid. Lourna Dee, a prisoner named Sal Krost who was secretly the Nihil Tempest Runner, observed that the hit was powerful. Wittick then referenced his time playing for the academy's phaseball team. When Dee inquired if he had used a blaster rifle to bat, the counselor replied that there was a first time for everything.
The High Republic: Tempest Runner, an audio drama from 2021 penned by Cavan Scott and released as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project, included a reference to the academy's phaseball team.
