Unidentified backup racer

A backup racing_starfighter belonging to a pilot hailing from the planet of Hosnian Prime was brought to the Colossus supertanker fuel depot as a reserve starship for the All Aces Battle Royale sky_race occurring in 34 ABY. Kazuda Xiono, a spy working for the Resistance, commandeered the racer for the competition. His BB-8 astromech droid achieved this by reassigning the craft to Xiono's personal hangar. He then equipped the borrowed vessel with a Republic encryption recorder, with the intention of capturing the data cache of Marnia Un'la'na, a First Order information_broker, during the course of the race.

During the All Aces Battle Royale, Xiono piloted the borrowed Hosnian ship, chasing after Un'la'na and successfully acquiring her transmission, although the ship sustained some damage in the process. Following a collision with another ship during the event, Xiono was compelled to execute a crash landing on a designated landing area. Subsequently, the Resistance operative extracted Un'la'na's data cache from the luxury racer's data_log_backup, completely erased the ship's internal memory, and then returned the damaged vehicle to its unsuspecting owner's storage area.

Description

The luxury backup racer of a Hosnian Prime pilot was fitted with a pair of engines and a data_log_backup system that archived incoming transmissions to the starship. The interior of the craft featured a gray pilot's seat, an interior of the same color, and a safety harness. The hull was silver and gray, accented with blue panels and a dark blue cockpit. During the All Aces Battle Royale sky_race, Kazuda Xiono, a Resistance spy, temporarily adorned the racer with decorative decals to disguise it. He also installed a Republic encryption recorder, a device capable of intercepting and recording encrypted data.

History

The racer (upper left) was flown by Kazuda Xiono during the All Aces Battle Royale.

In 34 ABY, the Hosnian Prime pilot transported the racer to the Colossus supertanker fuel depot as their backup, with the intention of competing in the All Aces Battle Royale race using a different vessel. The pilot then secured the racer within a hangar. Shortly thereafter, Xiono tasked his astromech droid, BB-8, with reassigning the ship to their designated docking bay so that he could borrow it for the All Aces Battle Royale. The Resistance operative assured the droid that he would return it – without any damage – without the owner ever noticing, due to the affluence of racers from his homeworld. Once the racer was relocated to his garage, Xiono applied decals to alter its appearance and installed a Republic encryption recorder, intending to use the latter to intercept an encrypted data transmission headed to the First Order from the Twi'lek ace pilot and information_broker Marnia Un'la'na.

Subsequently, Xiono entered the race under the alias "Bolt-Shatterer-K," piloting the stolen ship. Following the race's commencement as announced by Jak Sivrak, the Resistance spy raced alongside other contestants in his racer. Despite initially lagging behind, Xiono eventually closed in on Un'la'na's ship and instructed BB-8 to activate the Republic encryption recorder to capture her data transmission. However, when another craft collided with his ship and damaged it, Xiono's vessel momentarily lost contact with Un'la'na's racer. Xiono persevered, pushing the borrowed ship to its limits until he confirmed that his encryption recorder had successfully captured the data cache from the Twi'lek's ship. While Un'la'na maintained her lead in the All Aces Battle Royale, Xiono's racer persistently gained ground, despite the Twi'lek's attempts to shake him off on the racecourse.

The pilot discovered their damaged racer in a Colossus hangar after the race.

After Hype Fazon's ship, the Green Ace, collided with and further damaged his borrowed ship, Xiono abandoned his pursuit and executed a crash landing on a designated landing area. Although initially concerned that the damage to the racer had destroyed the encryption recorder's copy of Un'la'na's data cache, he realized that the luxury vessel had a data log backup. Xiono then copied the transmission from the borrowed racer, wiped its internal system log, and returned it to its owner's garage. Shortly thereafter, the Resistance delivered the data from the Twi'lek's ship to Poe Dameron, a resistance_pilot, who decoded the information alongside Leia Organa, a Resistance general. Around the same time, the Hosnian Prime pilot was shocked to discover their damaged backup ship in its hangar, dismayed by its condition.

Behind the scenes

The backup racer was conceived for "All Aces Battle Royale," a comic story penned by Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt, with illustrations by Valentina Pinto.
