A human serving the Galactic Empire as an Imperial officer held the rank of commander within the Inspectorate during the Imperial Era. This commander took charge of Imperial response efforts when the Rebel Alliance launched an incursion on Coruscant.
Sometime between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, inside the Imperial Inspectorate Command Center located on the planet Coruscant, the commander received a report from a lieutenant. According to the lieutenant, four ships belonging to the Rebel Alliance were being tracked as they approached the planet at high speed. These ships consisted of a YT-1300 light freighter identified as the Millennium Falcon and three RZ-1 A-wing interceptors. The commander expressed surprise that such a small force was attacking and speculated that the rebels must have a plan. The commander then stated that they, unlike some other Imperials, did not underestimate the rebels' resourcefulness, pointing out that a squadron of similar size had once destroyed the Death Star. The commander instructed the lieutenant to activate orbital defense platforms and dispatch half of the planet's fighter wings, emphasizing that the rebels' plan would fail if they were dead. The lieutenant acknowledged the orders and moved to execute them immediately.
The orbital platforms successfully eliminated one of the rebel fighters, while the remaining ships continued towards their target: a statue of Emperor Palpatine located in Monument Plaza. As the three ships neared the statue, pursued by TIE fighters, they came under fire from the statue's turbolasers. All three ships sustained damage, and one was destroyed, a fact that the lieutenant reported to the commander. The commander was pleased by this development and urged them to finish the job. However, unbeknownst to either of them, one of the ships had managed to damage the statue before being destroyed. Another rebel ship was later destroyed, although the pilot was rescued and brought aboard the Falcon. Eventually, the Millennium Falcon evaded the pursuing TIEs and escaped from Coruscant.
The commander and the lieutenant inspected the statue and discovered the damage that had been inflicted. To make matters worse for the commander, cam droids were present, broadcasting images of the damage across the HoloNet. The commander ordered the lieutenant to remove the cameras from the area, hoping to minimize the publicity of the event, even though the damage was already done. The lieutenant then pointed out a positive aspect: the rebels had lost several pilots during the attack, suggesting that they must have committed valuable resources to the mission. The commander dismissed this, stating that the Emperor would not be concerned about the loss of a few rebels, and questioned how the damage to the statue had occurred. The lieutenant explained that one of the rebel ships must have gotten lucky when it fired at the statue before being targeted by the turbolasers. The commander seized upon the lieutenant's use of the word "lucky," suggesting that Emperor Palpatine might view the situation differently upon his return to Coruscant. The commander then instructed the lieutenant to dispatch repair crews to the statue immediately. As they left, the commander warned the lieutenant that there was no hiding the truth from Palpatine, who would take whatever action he deemed necessary. The commander advised the lieutenant that their best chance for survival lay in not drawing further attention to the incident.
