WLO-5 speeder tank

The WLO-5 speeder tank, alternatively known as the WLO-5 battle tank or WLO-5 Light Speeder Tank, represented a type of speeder tank frequently deployed by Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his pirate crew throughout the Clone Wars conflict. These tanks were commonly seen operating in the more lawless regions of the galaxy, where they were favored by criminals for both defending their bases against rival factions and launching attacks on more vulnerable targets.

Characteristics

The WLO-5 battle tank, which can also be called the WLO-5 speeder tank, was a repulsorlift tank produced by the Ubrikkian Ord Pedrovia corporation. It measured 11.47 meters in length and could achieve a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour. Propulsion was provided by a pair of turbine engines situated at the rear, and the vehicle featured armor plating, repulsor cooling vents at the front, and a pair of steering vanes, one on each side.

Its weaponry consisted of two forward-facing anti-personnel blasters along with a laser cannon on top, which was operated by a single gunner. The interior of the tank offered sufficient space for both pilots and additional troops.

Role

The WLO-5 battle tanks were often seen in the more ungoverned territories within the galaxy and were typically used by criminals and pirates to fortify their hideouts against rival groups and other enemies.

History

Two of Hondo Ohnaka's speeder tanks

The Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his Ohnaka Gang made use of WLO-5 battle tanks during the Clone Wars. Three of these vehicles were deployed during a Galactic Republic mission to Florrum but were ultimately rendered inoperable. Another tank saw action against the Jedi, a group of bounty hunters, and Felucians during a skirmish on Felucia.

WLO-5 battle tanks were also observed on Bilbousa, which is a city located on Nal Hutta, in a lot where starships were being offered for purchase. These tanks were employed extensively on Florrum. This included during the Jedi rescue operation to extract Padawan Ahsoka Tano from the Ohnaka Gang, as well as later during the invasion of Florrum against the Confederacy of Independent Systems by the Jedi and members of the Ohnaka Gang.

Behind the scenes

The WLO-5 battle tank made its first appearance in "The Gungan General," which was the twelfth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and was initially broadcast in 2009. Its official designation as the WLO-5 battle tank was first established in Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, a canon reference book that was published in 2015.
