Wurtz served the Galactic Republic as an officer. He achieved the military rank of admiral in the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars, a conflict against the Separatist Alliance. Early in this war, he was the commanding officer in charge of his own fleet of warships. In 22 BBY, Master of the Order Mace Windu and Grand Master Yoda became aware of the critical situation faced by High Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and their troops on the planet Christophsis. Consequently, Master Windu contacted a clone navigation officer from the Jedi Temple war room to request three of Wurtz's star cruisers.
Shortly thereafter, a Republic naval force, consisting of three of Wurtz's Venator-class Star Destroyers along with four Acclamator-class assault ships, under the joint command of Fleet Admiral Wullf Yularen and Master Yoda, appeared above Christophsis. The Republic warships engaged the Separatist blockade, successfully broke through it, and delivered reinforcements to the hard-pressed forces on Christophsis' surface, effectively bringing the battle to an end.
The Star Wars: The Clone Wars film, which premiered in 2008 as the introductory movie for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, included a mention of Wurtz.
