Freetown, previously called Mos Pelgo, and also going by the name Free City, was a settlement situated in the northern part of the planet Tatooine. In the year 4 ABY, the Mining Collective gathered the inhabitants of the settlement to use them as laborers. However, one individual, Sheriff Cobb Vanth, stole a camtono filled with silicax oxalate crystals from the Collective before escaping into the desert. Vanth eventually encountered a Jawa sandcrawler and exchanged the crystals for a suit of Mandalorian armor. Not long after this, Adwin Charu, a miner and representative of the newly formed Red Key Company, showed up to bargain with the Jawas. When Charu attempted to take the armor for himself, Vanth shot him and then departed. Upon his return to Mos Pelgo, he single-handedly freed the settlement from the control of the Mining Collective, becoming its de facto leader and protector.
The settlement was renamed Freetown and became the location of a conflict between Vanth's allies and the Red Key Raiders. Later, Vanth defended the residents from attacks by Tusken Raiders on their village. By approximately 9 ABY, the settlement was once again referred to as Mos Pelgo. The Mandalorian Din Djarin, a bounty hunter, journeyed to Mos Pelgo in search of another Mandalorian. After his encounter with Vanth, he obtained the armor by assisting him in killing a krayt dragon that had been preying on Mos Pelgo's livestock. Following this triumph, the settlement was once again renamed Freetown. Djarin later came back to the settlement, asking Vanth to aid Boba Fett in his struggle against the Pyke Syndicate. After Djarin's departure, Cad Bane arrived in the settlement and shot both Scott, the deputy, and Vanth. The defenders of the settlement later joined the fight against the Pykes to avenge the attack. A beverage called the "Freetown Reserve" was created on Tatooine and its popularity spread to a cantina elsewhere in the galaxy.
