"Aftershock" marks the beginning of the twentieth episode of the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. The release date for this episode on Disney+ was February 14, 2024.
The Jedi Order responds to a groundquake's impact on a local community located on the planet Vuundalla. Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs, the three Jedi younglings, use their abilities with the Force to save a fathier trapped in a damaged building. Mina, the fathier's owner, and her father Renaad express their gratitude to Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna for the assistance. Master Zia responds that the Jedi were compelled to help after learning of the groundquake.
When Solay inquires about further assistance, Renaad mentions the need for wood, bricks, and tools for reconstruction. He explains that the castle holds all the extra supplies on Vuundalla, but its inhabitants have not provided any aid. Solay is taken aback that the local king and queen are not providing assistance. Brightstar asks if they might approach the local rulers for help. Master Zia consents and offers to accompany them.
Upon arriving at the castle gates, the four Jedi are met by a group of armed security droids. CK-38, a protocol droid, informs them that they cannot be received without a prior appointment, citing the king and queen's busy schedules. He instructs them to leave and begins to escort Master Zia away. At that moment, Prince Cyrus arrives on his landspeeder and asks why the Jedi are present. Master Zia introduces herself and the Jedi, explaining their mission to assist Vuundalla in its post-quake recovery. She requests a meeting with Cyrus' parents.
Despite CK-38's protests, Cyrus disregards the droid's objections and guides the Jedi to the throne room. CK-38 informs King Pychor and Queen Dafne that he attempted to prevent their entry, but the monarchs are engrossed in consuming grape-like fruits. Pychor shows indifference to the quake victims, while lamenting the loss of an extra fathier stable. Dafne informs the Jedi that they are preoccupied with other matters and are unconcerned about the damage to a single village. Brightstar objects, stating that the villagers are their people, and Solay adds that they require supplies for rebuilding. Nubs nods in agreement.
Master Zia reiterates her students' message. Dafne remains unmoved by the villagers' plight. Zia suggests that witnessing the suffering of their subjects might motivate them to offer assistance. The King, citing his and his consort's busy schedules, decides to send his son Cyrus instead. Cyrus protests, but Dafne insists that he accompany the Jedi. Before the Jedi depart, the monarchs inquire about the Galactic Republic's new space station, Starlight Beacon. Master Zia instructs the younglings to accompany Cyrus to the village while she engages in conversation with the monarchs.
As they descend a staircase, Prince Cyrus, in a grumpy mood, insists that the villagers are doing fine. When Solay asks if he has visited the village, Cyrus admits that he has never been there nor met the villagers. Brightstar and Nubs are astonished that Cyrus has never interacted with his subjects. Cyrus expresses a lack of concern for the villagers.
When Cyrus accompanies the Jedi to the village, he is taken aback by the devastation caused by the groundquake. Mina embraces Nubs before inquiring about the prince's identity. Renaad informs his daughter that they are in the presence of Prince Cyrus. When Mina asks if he has come to help, Cyrus struggles to respond. Brightstar suggests that Cyrus could request supplies from his parents. Cyrus attempts to explain his parents' unwillingness to help, but Mina embraces him and expresses her gratitude, causing him to blush in embarrassment. Mina tells him that he is the best.
Cyrus informs the Jedi and Mina that he will personally address the groundquake damage. He promises to procure the necessary supplies himself. When Solay asks about his plan, Cyrus suggests borrowing some of the extra supplies from a fathier stable that his parents are constructing in the woods. When Brightstar questions the ethics of "borrowing," Cyrus asserts that he can do as he pleases because he is a Prince. Brightstar volunteers to accompany Cyrus, while Solay and Nubs remain behind to assist the locals.
Upon reaching the stable construction site, Cyrus orders the foreman droid overseeing the loadlifter droids to relinquish the supplies. Brightstar supports his demand. The foreman droid refuses, stating that the supplies are essential for building the royal stables. When Cyrus declares that he is changing the orders, the foreman droid retorts that he lacks the authority to alter orders issued by the king or queen. Cyrus is defiant and confronts the droids, who encircle him.
Brightstar intervenes, advocating for diplomacy. Cyrus seizes the opportunity to push one of the load lifter droids, causing it to collide with its fellow droids in a domino effect. Prince Cyrus retrieves a sled loaded with wood and equipment. The foreman droid and the loadlifter droids attempt to obstruct his path, but the prince manually deactivates the four loadlifter droids by switching them off at the back. During this process, he displays impressive acrobatic skills, which surprise Brightstar.
Cyrus pursues the foreman droid with a broom but inadvertently damages one of the stable's walls. Brightstar urges Cyrus to cease the violence. Listening to the Jedi youngling, Cyrus spares the foreman droid and orders him to leave immediately. When Brightstar suggests that Cyrus take a moment to calm down, the prince expresses his frustration with people telling him what to do. Cyrus confides that he resents Brightstar and helping people he barely knows. Cyrus is upset that he damaged the royal stable's walls.
Brightstar speaks to Cyrus, reminding him that he witnessed his people's need for help and attempted to address it. Cyrus claims that he has limited power despite his title. Brightstar counters that he is not in charge but that his lack of status doesn't stop him from helping others. Brightstar tells Cyrus that he can make a difference and that the only person stopping him is himself. Cyrus agrees, and the two return to the village, with Cyrus' speeder towing the supplies sled.
En route, they encounter a palace security droid blocking their path, wielding an electrostaff. Prince Cyrus insists on returning the supplies to the village, while Brightstar attempts to reason with the droid. The security droid replies that he has orders to take the supplies and Prince Cyrus back to the palace. Cyrus engages the droid in combat with his electrostaff, but the droid gains the advantage. Brightstar intervenes and confronts the security droid with his lightsaber. However, the security droid adds that Brightstar will also be coming with him.
Before the security droid can act, King Pychor activates the restraining bolt, deactivating the droid. Queen Dafne asks Cyrus what is happening. Pychor explains that the foreman droid informed them that their son was interfering with their construction site. Dafne says they decided to investigate while Pychor expresses disappointment with Cyrus. Cyrus explains that their people needed help and that he decided to take the supplies. The Jedi and people gather around Cryus in a show of solidarity.
Dafne remarks that she respects her son for proving that he is a man of action. She relents and decides to share some supplies. King Pychor also asks Master Zia to keep them informed about Starlight Beacon, which she agrees to do.
The Jedi younglings harness their Force abilities to assist in repairing the villagers' homes, including Mina's. Mina embraces and thanks Cyrus. Brightstar expresses his gratitude to Cyrus for his help, prompting the Prince to admit that he enjoys the "mushy stuff." Brightstar decides to introduce himself to Cyrus. After shaking hands, the two then rejoin the reconstruction efforts.
