Artiod Minor

Artiod Minor, a planet situated in Wild Space, served as the original homeworld for the sentient Artiodac species. The cold and swampy environment of this world once saw its inhabitants enslaved for numerous centuries by the Zygerrian Slave Empire, resulting in the Artiodacs being scattered across the galaxy. Notably, the Artiodac chef, Strono Tuggs, spent his childhood on this very planet.

Description

Within the Artiod system, located in the remote Morellian Commonwealth region, lay Artiod Minor, a Wild Space planet. Its position was identified as grid square S-3 on the Standard Galactic Grid. The planet was a cold and swampy environment, characterized by scrub forests that were home to creatures known as shuimi.

History

Artiod Minor was the homeworld of the Artiodac species.

The Zygerrian Slave Empire's enslavers discovered the Artiod system at some point. They invaded Artiod Minor and proceeded to keep the native Artiodac species enslaved for several centuries. Throughout that time, the Zygerrians would periodically return to replenish their slave populations with Artiodacs. This period of enslavement ultimately led to the Artiodacs gaining a poor reputation, with many natives of Artiod Minor departing the planet to find work as soldiers or criminal underlings, which resulted in the species becoming dispersed throughout the galaxy.

Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef who had lived for centuries by 34 ABY, spent his childhood on Artiod Minor. In his work, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, published in that year, he mentioned that well-prepared soups and stews evoked memories of that period in his life. An entry in an artist's journal dedicated to the Artiodacs also mentioned Artiod Minor. This journal was later restored, expanded, and exhibited at the Graf Archive at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.

Inhabitants

Artiod Minor was the original homeworld of the sentient, humanoid Artiodac species. As part of their courtship rituals, young Artiodacs would search the planet's scrub forests for shuimi feathers, which they would use to create crowns to attract a mate's attention. After mating, Artiodac pairs would spend their lives maintaining aqua-farms that housed schools of prengalli creatures.

Behind the scenes

Artiod Minor was first mentioned in the 2016 reference book titled Star Wars: Aliens of the Galaxy, written by Jason Fry.
