Chancey Yarrow

Chancey Yarrow, a human female during the High Republic Era, held the diverse roles of scientist, pirate, and trader. An expert in the field of theoretical hyperspace physics, Chancey faced expulsion from the Academy of Carida shortly before completing her doctorate. This expulsion stemmed from the discovery that she had falsified information regarding the use of research funds, diverting them towards the unauthorized construction of a gravity well projector. Following this setback, Chancey found employment as a hauler for the Byne Guild and during this time gave birth to a daughter, Sylvestri. She cultivated relationships with key figures such as Lourna Dee, a Tempest Runner of the Nihil, and the influential Graf family. These connections led to an opportunity to contribute to the Gravity's Heart space station project within the Berenge sector. Driven by the ambition to realize her dream project, Chancey orchestrated her own supposed demise to secretly work on the Gravity's Heart, leaving her daughter Sylvestri with the false belief that she had fallen victim to Nihil attacks.

Yarrow established the Lastelle Collective and advocated for the deregulation and opening of privately operated hyperspace routes. The Grafs provided Yarrow with a laboratory in the Hynestian sector after the Gravity's Heart was destroyed. In return, Yarrow pledged to provide the Grafs with an information broker, who was revealed to be Nan, a young member of the Nihil.

Eventually, Yarrow and Nan were apprehended and transported to the Starlight Beacon, where the Jedi imprisoned them. She and Nan were freed amidst the Nihil's sabotage of the station. Recognizing the impending crash of the station into Eiram's atmosphere, she made an attempt to repair the positional thrusters. Elzar Mann discovered the scientist and, mistaking her for a Nihil saboteur, fatally bisected her with his lightsaber.

Biography

Student at Carida

In her younger years, Chancey Yarrow was a student at the Academy of Carida, focusing on theoretical hyperspace tactics. She studied under the Gungan Thaddeus Wolk, who headed the hyperspace theory and philosophy department at the academy. Following one of his lectures, Yarrow approached Professor Wolk, challenging her colleagues' and the department's professors' assumptions about the true nature of hyperspace. While Professor Wolk provided Yarrow with a letter of introduction to the Ministry of Transportation, Yarrow chose to further her academic pursuits.

Yarrow formulated a theory regarding artificial gravity wells and their potential to force ships out of hyperspace at strategically advantageous moments. This theory merged her knowledge of battle tactics with her passion for hyperspace theory. The Academy of Carida deemed Yarrow to have become obsessed with hyperspace theory, due to the fact that hyperspace tactics during times of conflict were typically passive as opposed to violent, and because of concerns about the energy and calculations required to create a theoretical artificial gravity well. Yarrow was denied a research grant for her work on a gravity well projector on three separate occasions, before she misrepresented a change in her research focus. This allowed her to obtain a grant intended to improve the energy efficiency of hyperspace jump drives. When it was discovered that she had provided false information on her research grant application and that she was continuing her work on a gravity well despite previous grant rejections, Yarrow was expelled from the academy shortly before she was to receive her doctorate.
