EG-30, a GNK-series power droid, struck up a friendship with Jitt, a Jawa technician, while on the planet of Tatooine. Their bond remained strong until the droid was sold to a family of moisture farmers during 0 BBY. Many years later, EG-30 could be found working on the fringes of Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, in territory controlled by the Resistance. He collaborated with another power droid, EG-127.

On the Outer Rim desert planet of Tatooine, EG-30, a GNK-series power droid, was captured by a tribe of Jawas. Several months before the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, he was brought onto their sandcrawler, where he encountered Jitt, the Jawa's head mechanic. They immediately bonded and spent almost all of their time together in the following months.
Knowing her fellow Jawas would eventually sell EG-30, Jitt secretly installed a device inside her friend that would disable his primary motivator, thinking no one would want to purchase a broken droid. When the Jawas offered EG-30 for sale to a moisture farmer, Jitt was ready to activate the device. However, she changed her mind when she witnessed the farmer's daughter hugging the droid. Deciding she wanted her friend to have a family, she allowed the Jawas to proceed with the sale.
Years later, during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, Emil Graf, a cartographer, shared the tale of the droid and the Jawa with his companions on the Star Herald. Eventually, EG-30 made his way to Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim world of Batuu. A few months following the Hosnian Cataclysm in 34 ABY, he operated alongside another GNK power droid, EG-127, a veteran of the Galactic Civil War, in an area under Resistance control.
EG-30 enjoyed a very close relationship with Jitt, his Jawa companion, working alongside her in her professional duties and joining her during her free time. The droid participated in activities rarely observed among GNK units, such as playing dejarik with his friend and engaging in sled races on the Tatooine dunes.

EG-30's initial appearance was in "Tales from Wild Space: Gonk!," the second story within Star Wars Adventures (2017) 8. Otis Frampton wrote and illustrated the story, which was published by IDW Publishing on March 28, 2018. In two instances, the issue incorrectly refers to the droid as "RM-30."
Later, the droid was featured as a prop in the themed area Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which opened to visitors at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios during 2019. This prop is capable of producing various sound effects. Simultaneously, the droid appeared in the Star Wars: Datapad application that launched alongside the themed land, where it was identified as EG-30, although Galaxy's Edge employees were instructed to call it A4-30. The Hollywood Studios version of the Datapad identifies EG-127 as the green GNK-series droid located next to the X-wing starfighter, which means EG-30 is the gray droid. A third, unnamed GNK-series power droid stands alongside the pair at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
