Ganaire Kyrell

Ganaire Kyrell, hailing from the planet of Jelucan, was a human female of Second-wave aristocratic standing. She entered into marriage with Oris Kyrell and became the mother of two sons, Dalven and Thane. During the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, Ganaire actively sought to gain the Empire's approval.

Biography

As the wife of Oris Kyrell and the mother of Dalven and Thane, Ganaire Kyrell was a Second-waver residing on the planet of Jelucan throughout the reign of the Galactic Empire. Ganaire's family possessed considerable wealth and resided in a dwelling adorned with gold tiles. In the year 11 BBY, Ganaire and her family were present at a ceremony held in the city of Valentia to commemorate the Empire's annexation of Jelucan. She voiced her discontent about traversing the streets like "valley trash," a derogatory term directed towards the valley-dwelling First Wavers who had initially settled Jelucan. Her husband, Oris, countered by mentioning that the hangars were filled with hovercraft and that walking would not adversely affect their sons.

Upon her elder son Dalven's complaint that Thane should have remained at home with their tutor droid, CZ-1, Ganaire sided with Thane, reminding Dalven that Thane's birth occurred in the same year as the Empire's establishment. Following a speech by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Ganaire and Oris attended a reception alongside various Imperial dignitaries, leaving Dalven to supervise his younger brother. However, Dalven became engrossed with his friends and neglected Thane, leading Thane to form a friendship with a valley-dweller girl named Ciena Ree. After an encounter with Tarkin, the two resolved to pursue careers in the Imperial Navy.

Ganaire and Oris favored their older son, Dalven, while overlooking Thane. When Thane, at the age of fifteen, was physically assaulted by his father following a disagreement, Ganaire neither intervened nor acknowledged his injuries the following morning. Consequently, Thane dedicated himself to securing a position at the Imperial Academy to escape his parents and Jelucan. Upon Thane's acceptance into the prestigious Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant, Ganaire and Oris bid farewell to their son at home, refraining from accompanying him to the spaceport.

Throughout his studies and subsequent service as a TIE fighter pilot, Thane maintained no contact with his parents. Following his desertion from the Empire after the destruction of Alderaan, Thane did not seek refuge with his parents, aware of his mother's inclination to curry favor with the Empire and his father's volatile temperament. After Thane's friend Ciena fabricated his death, Ganaire, along with Oris and Dalven, presumably believed that Thane had committed suicide due to grief over the loss of his comrades aboard the Death Star. In reality, Thane had fled and subsequently joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Personality and traits

Ganaire was a human woman who typically wore a long robe of saffron-colored hue. Ganaire, alongside her husband Oris, exhibited snobbish tendencies and constructed a large gold-tiled house to impress their neighbors. However, the sheer size of their residence necessitated the placement of their hangar on the terrace below. As a second-waver, Ganaire held a condescending view of the Jelucani valley-dwellers, the planet's initial settlers. Ganaire demonstrated a willingness to curry favor with the Empire following its annexation of her homeworld, which led Thane, after deserting the Empire, to avoid returning home, knowing his mother's eagerness to serve the Empire.

While she, like her husband, generally favored their older son over their younger son, Ganaire occasionally showed support for Thane. When Dalven suggested that Thane should have been left at home during the celebration of the Empire's annexation of Jelucan, she sided with Thane, reminding Dalven that Thane was born on the same day the Empire was established. She and her husband also tolerated Thane's friendship with Ciena Ree, despite her being a First Waver, even allowing her to visit their home. She even bid farewell along with her husband to Thane when he departed for the Imperial Academy. However, despite not belittling Thane as much as his father and older brother did, Ganaire did not protect Thane when he was physically assaulted by Oris during one of the latter's drunken outbursts.
