Oris Kyrell

Oris Kyrell was a human male of aristocratic standing, originating from the planet of Jelucan. He was married to Ganaire Kyrell and held the role of father to both Dalven and Thane Kyrell. Despite favoring Dalven, his eldest, Oris was known to be abusive toward Thane. Furthermore, he disapproved of Thane's childhood bond with Ciena Ree because of the social divide between her community and his own aristocratic circle.

Biography

Ganaire Kyrell was the wife of Oris Kyrell, and together they were the parents of Dalven and Thane Kyrell. He was an aristocrat descended from the Second-wave migrants who established themselves on Jelucan. During the Age of the Empire, Oris held the occupation of an accountant. He resided with his wife, Ganaire, in an opulent residence adorned with gold tiles. In 11 BBY, Oris and his family were present at the ceremony commemorating the Galactic Empire's Annexation of Jelucan. When Ganaire expressed her disappointment about not bringing their hovercraft, Oris dismissed her concerns, citing the expected congestion in the hangars and assuring her that the boys could keep pace. Following a speech by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Oris and his wife were invited to a private reception with several "Very Important Officials."

Dalven was entrusted with the responsibility of looking after his younger brother, Thane. However, Dalven neglected his duty, choosing to spend time with his friends instead. As a consequence, Thane formed a friendship with Ciena Ree, a girl from Jelucan who was a First Waver. Inspired by their encounter with Tarkin, the two young individuals decided to pursue careers in the Imperial Navy. Despite Thane's aspirations, Oris displayed a lack of interest in his younger son's intellectual growth. Instead, he favored his older son, Dalven, and even resorted to bribery to secure Dalven's admission to an Imperial Academy. Conversely, Oris treated his younger son with contempt. He even physically assaulted Thane in a fit of anger when Thane was fifteen years old. On another occasion, Oris intervened in a dispute between his sons after Dalven made disparaging remarks about Thane's friend, Ciena.

After the destruction of Alderaan, Thane abandoned his position in the Imperial Navy, disillusioned by the Empire's ruthless methods. Upon returning to Jelucan, Thane made the decision not to seek shelter with his parents. The former TIE fighter pilot wished to avoid his father's drunken scorn and his mother's disapproval. To safeguard Thane, Ciena Ree, who had ascended to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Imperial Navy, submitted a report falsely claiming that Thane had taken his own life. Thane later aligned himself with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Following the Battle of Hoth, Oris and Ganaire were on a business trip halfway across the planet when Thane revisited Jelucan to offer support to his friend Ciena, whose mother, Verine Ree, had been falsely accused of embezzlement. Oris, Ganaire, and Dalven likely believed that Thane was deceased.

Personality and traits

Oris Kyrell was a man of human descent, characterized by his snobbishness and volatile temper. He resided in a lavish house adorned with gold tiles. As a member of the second wave of settlers, he held a disdainful view of the first wave settlers residing in Jelucan's valleys. Oris was also prone to fits of anger and would resort to physical force when disciplining his sons, Dalven and Thane. He exhibited favoritism towards his older son, Dalven, over his younger son, Thane. Harboring high expectations for Dalven, Oris employed bribery to secure his older son's place at an Imperial Academy, while leaving his younger son to independently navigate the path to attending one.

In contrast, Oris shared a strained relationship with Thane. He physically assaulted his younger son in a fit of rage when Thane was fifteen years old. As a result, Thane harbored animosity towards his father. As an adult, he avoided contact with his family, unwilling to endure Oris' drunken outbursts. On one occasion, Thane expressed displeasure when his friend Ciena drew a comparison between him and his father. Oris was also known to frequently consume alcoholic beverages. He frequented pubs and was known to enter into drunken rages which he would often take out on his family. Despite this, Oris loved his younger son at least a little, tolerating his friendship with Ciena Ree in spite that she was a First Waver, even letting her to go to their home, and he said farewell along her wife to Thane when he left for the Imperial Academy of Coruscant.
