HoloNet News (original website)
To generate buzz for the 2002 cinematic debut of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, an official Star Wars website called HoloNet News was launched. This website presented various in-universe news reports that chronicled galactic happenings leading up to the movie's story.
The site not only covered significant events directly related to the plot of Attack of the Clones, but also featured articles that connected to other aspects of the Expanded Universe. Numerous in-jokes and obscure references were also incorporated into many of these articles. It was claimed that the website's content was archived and included as DVD-ROM material on disc one of the 2002 DVD edition of Attack of the Clones, in addition to its online presence. However, this feature was never actually included.
Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens were the authors of the site and its articles, and Joe Corroney created the illustrations.
In October 2013, the HoloNet News website was taken offline, and its content was redirected to StarWars.com.
Structure
A total of twelve issues were released, all belonging to volume 531. Each issue and article was assigned an in-universe date based on the Great ReSynchronization dating system.
HoloNetNews.com was organized into seven distinct sections:
- NEWS
- BUSINESS
- REGIONAL
- JEDI WATCH
- SPORTS
- LIFE
- ARCHIVE
Furthermore, there was a section that provided a five-day Weather Forecast based on a six-digit planet code that the user entered. The link would generate a random weather page, regardless of the digits entered, or even if no numbers were entered at all. Along with a written report detailing issues and warnings such as coronal flaring that could lead to mass unicellular extinctions, EM shielding recommendations, seismic shifting, or frog showers, high and low temperatures and weather graphics would be displayed.
