Hoojib

Hoojibs represented a sentient species from the planet Arbra, characterized by their small size and white-furred bodies. They possessed distinctive long ears, an antenna located atop their heads, and utilized four legs for locomotion. The smugglers known as Han Solo and Chewbacca once acquired a Hoojib with the intention of presenting it to the menagerie belonging to the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, in hopes of gaining his favor. However, this creature was not as simple as it initially appeared.

Biology and appearance

Originating from the planet [Arbra](/article/arbra], Hoojibs were a sentient species recognized by their diminutive stature and white-[furred](/article/hair] exteriors. They navigated using four legs, featured an antenna situated on their heads, and typically exhibited elongated, floppy ears; however, there was at least one Hoojib observed with noticeably shorter auditory appendages.

Despite many sentient beings considering them simple creatures, Hoojibs had telepathic abilities, enabling silent communication. They could also produce audible sounds, commonly vocalizing "yi". Similar to mynocks, their diet was energy-based, consuming energy crystals from their home planet. They also had the ability to extract energy from electronic devices, droids, and even starships.

History

The Hoojib species originated on Arbra. The majority of their population resided within a single cave and sustained themselves on the energy crystals found there. A male Hoojib named Plif served as the primary spokesperson for his species.

On one occasion, Bralem Mopak, a criminal of the Nimbanel species, captured a large number of Hoojibs from Arbra. He presented himself as a trader, selling them as exotic pets. Mopak was secretly sending Hoojibs, including Plif, to other criminals, compelling them to gather and transmit intelligence back to him on Arbra. When the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca journeyed to Arbra with the objective of acquiring a Hoojib for the menagerie of Jabba the Hutt, a crime lord, Mopak provided them with Plif in a cage. The smugglers subsequently transported Plif back to Jabba's Palace located on Tatooine. Although Jabba rejected the creature, Plif relayed information concerning a deal the Hutt was planning with the trader Zikk Keradd. Mopak then contacted Keradd and persuaded him to ally with himself rather than Jabba. After Jabba imprisoned Solo and Chewbacca, suspecting their involvement in the failure of the deal with Keradd, Plif liberated them and informed them of the situation on Arbra. Solo and Chewbacca returned Plif to Arbra to organize a rescue. Solo allowed himself and Chewbacca to be captured so Plif could rally the other Hoojibs to escape and overthrow Mopak. The Hoojibs succeeded, and they remained on Arbra.

In 9 ABY, a cousin of the deceased Jabba the Hutt possessed a Hoojib, utilizing it to wipe perspiration from their neck.
