Iziz, situated on the planet Onderon within the Inner Rim, functioned as its capital city. The Onderonian Civil War unfolded during the Clone Wars, with numerous battles occurring in this city. The Galactic Republic supported the Onderon rebels in their successful effort to depose the Separatist administration, which had been forcefully imposed.
The city of Iziz acted as the primary capital for the planet Onderon, located in the Inner Rim. Fortified walls encircled the city, offering its inhabitants protection from the perilous jungles of Onderon. The main point of entry into the city was via a bridge, which was heavily defended by turrets and a ray shield. Following the invasion of Onderon during the Clone Wars, and the subsequent Separatist occupation, battle droids meticulously searched all individuals seeking entry into the city.
Upon entering the city, visitors immediately found themselves in the bustling courtyards of Malgan Market. The market was primarily populated by humans, along with speeders and various riding beasts like the tee-muss or the fambaa. At the heart of Iziz stood the Unifar Temple, which served as the palace for the Onderonian monarchs. This temple was not only the tallest structure in the city but also situated slightly above the other buildings. A gentle incline provided a natural pathway from the main marketplaces near the city's entrance towards Yolahn Square, located directly at the base of the temple. On the city's outskirts, the main power generator was secured by another defensive wall. While Iziz had limited vegetation, some ferns adorned the exteriors of certain buildings.
The architectural design of Iziz featured sharp, straight lines, evident in the rectangular shape of most buildings, as well as pyramidal structures such as the Unifar Temple. Arches were a common design element for doorways and other entrances. Furthermore, pillars were incorporated into some buildings. Many of the buildings were painted in shades of light or dark brown and topped with blue roofs. The Unifar Temple, in contrast, boasted a blue and yellow color palette.
During the Clone Wars period, Iziz fell under the control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems after King Sanjay Rash forged an alliance with them. A significant number of B1-battle droids, B2-series super battle droids, DSD1 dwarf spider droids, droidekas, and later, commando droids and HMP droid gunships were deployed within Iziz, alongside vehicles like the Multi-Troop Transport and the Armored Assault Tank. Rash's decisions spurred the Onderon rebels to rise against him, eventually launching operations within Iziz to overthrow Rash and reinstate the previous ruler, Ramsis Dendup, to his rightful position.
The initial depiction of the city of Iziz occurred in the 1993 Star Wars Legends comic titled Tales of the Jedi: Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon. It subsequently played a prominent role in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The city's inclusion in canon happened in "A War on Two Fronts," which was the second episode within the fifth season of the animated television program Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
