Sometime around 14 BBY, an Inquisitor discovers the location of a rumored lightsaber user. She encounters an individual on Ontotho and immediately launches an attack. The individual is easily overpowered by the Inquisitor. After being disarmed, the individual uses their blaster. The Inquisitor then realizes that this person is not a Jedi. After interrogating the imposter, she learns that the lightsaber came from the temple on Ontotho. The individual refuses to reveal the temple's location, but the Inquisitor is convinced that there are more insurgents. She believes they will lead the Imperials to their target.

Several years prior, Cere Junda awakens to find a droid observing her. As the droid speaks, Cere spots her lightsaber outside of her cell. She uses the Force to pull it toward her. With her lightsaber activated, she easily escapes. However, she is quickly surrounded by the Fylar Freedom Fighters as the droid alerts them. Each side demands the other to lower their weapons. The situation only de-escalates when one of them, the same individual who would later encounter the Inquisitor, claims they were not responsible for the attack on the Daa Corporation caravan. She also states that Cere's capture was due to an overzealous freedom fighter. They only kept her to protect her from the caravan attackers. Cere and the apparent leader of the freedom fighters start over, and the leader identifies herself as Neralli.
Neralli guides Cere around the area and explains that they are a peaceful people who simply want to stay out of the Daa Corporation and Ontothon government's agreement with the Republic. A child interrupts them while comforting a musk teave. Cere learns from the child and Neralli that several children have a unique connection to the area, similar to the Force. Cere mentions that she had difficulty reaching her master due to the overwhelming presence of the Force. This prompts Neralli and En-Threelo to inform her that everyone else in the caravan attack died, including Eno Cordova.

To explain why someone other than the Fylari might have attacked the convoy, Neralli takes Cere to the temple. Neralli explains that the Fylari have protected the temple throughout their history. They do not want the Daa Corporation to enter, regardless of whether they intend to excavate or simply explore. Neralli asserts that the attackers belonged to the Daa Corporation, having recovered one of the attackers' masks bearing the corporation's mark. Cere wants to contact the Jedi Council, but the Fylari lack the means to do so.
The following day, Cere, accompanied by En-Threelo, who is monitoring the Jedi, cautiously enter Ontotho City. Despite En-Threelo's insistence on staying with the Jedi to watch over her, Cere forces the droid to remain behind. She distracts some guards with a falling statue. Cere sneaks past the guards and enters the ventilation system. She overhears the Ontothon government listening to Dylanto Daa discussing the caravan attack. He pleads for permission to continue the exploration. The government agrees. Cere pushes through the vent and lands near Dylanto.
Cere explains that she does not believe the Fylari were responsible for the caravan attack and expresses her desire to contact the Jedi Council. When Dylanto presses her to identify the attackers, Cere reveals the mask with the Daa Corporation mark, emphasizing her point. The Ontothon government sides with Dylanto, calling him a friend of Ontotho. They order security to detain Cere. Cere resists, creating enough of a distraction to escape out the front of the government building, where she meets En-Threelo. The security, along with Daa's security droids, catch up with the wanted Jedi as the security outside the building joins them. Cere persuades En-Threelo to warn Neralli and the rest of the Fylari about the Ontothon government's alliance with Daa. She does her best to fend off the security forces.
A day later, Neralli is arguing with Moroo about their readiness to fight a war against the combined forces of the Ontothon government and the Daa Corporation. As they prepare, Cere appears, alive and well. She declares that if they want to win the fight, the Fylari will need her assistance.
