Plot summary

In the year 14 BBY, an Inquisitor continues searching for the temple on Ontotho, resulting in the death of a gigoran. Despite the doubts of the Purge Troopers accompanying her, the Inquisitor demonstrates that the Fylar Freedom Fighters possess knowledge of the temple by revealing signs of its presence beneath the ground they protect.

Cere Junda attacks alongside the Fylari.

Some years before, the Daa Corporation's security team is formulating a plan to confront the Fylari when they observe Cere Junda waiting calmly. Cere asserts that they lack the authority to explore because the Fylar region is an independent nation. In response, the Daa security team argues that their presence is legitimate due to an agreement between the Republic and the Ontothon government. Recognizing Cere from her actions in Ontotho City, one of the security personnel orders the team to open fire. Cere retaliates verbally, summoning the Fylari, who were hidden nearby, to defend their land. Neralli, En-Threelo, and the other freedom fighters join Cere, repelling the Daa forces while prioritizing the destruction of droids over killing officers.

A few hours later, Cere and her companions return to a Fylari village. Fess, a Gigoran freedom fighter, predicts that the Daa will return with a larger force. Neralli initially defends Cere but ultimately agrees with Fess's suggestion to focus on defending their own lands rather than implementing Cere's plan to return to the city and inform the Jedi Council. Before they can resolve the disagreement, an explosion causes people to fall to the ground. Daa Corporation droids attack Cere and the Fylari, who begin to defend the village. They deduce that the equipment recovered from the previous battle contained hidden trackers. The group successfully repels the droids, and Neralli asks Cere how many fighters she needs for her plan.

Within a Daa Camp situated on the border between Ontotho and the Fylar region, Dylanto Daa discusses Cere and the freedom fighters' recent actions, expressing his admiration for the Jedi. As Dylanto instructs the Commander to rest, Cere and a group of selected fighters infiltrate the camp. Cere advances, creating chaos with her lightsaber, causing the loading dock to ignite. With the distraction in place, Cere and En-Threelo incapacitate a couple of guards and attempt to access the communications system, only to find it locked. Cere gives En-Threelo ten minutes to unlock it while she enters Dylanto's section of the camp.

Dylanto Daa defends himself from Cere Junda.

Inside, Dylanto hears Cere approaching and fires his blaster, but the padawan quickly disarms him. Dylanto claims he has no ill intentions towards Cere and states he no longer believed she was a Jedi because of her collaboration with the freedom fighters. Dylanto manages to activate a button on a nearby table, summoning several Daa security droids. Cere quickly eliminates them, but soon encounters another lightsaber. Eno Cordova stands before her, alive and well, and they both express their surprise at the other's survival.

Eno comments further on the overwhelming nature of the Force on Ontotho before Dylanto explains that he cared for the injured Jedi and kept his survival a secret to prevent the attackers from returning. Cere attempts to explain her current situation, but Eno continues to discuss his time with Dylanto. Cere asserts that Dylanto is merely trying to distract Eno from contacting the Jedi Council, but Eno claims he has already done so with Dylanto's help. Cere then reveals to Eno that she has been fighting alongside the Fylari, much to his surprise.

Two days later, the opposing sides of the conflict meet. Cere is accompanied by Neralli, Fess, Moroo, and En-Threelo, while Eno joins Dylanto and the other Daa representatives. Neralli expresses her concern about a potential trap as the two groups approach each other. The tension is palpable as Eno attempts to calm the leaders during their exchange. Eno eventually diffuses the situation, using Cere's same display of the Force she used on Nameel, and convinces the two sides to agree to a two-day truce. Cere believes the peace will be short-lived, but Eno states that it only needs to last long enough for the two Jedi to uncover the truth, as they both gaze at the temple at the center of the issue.
