The Jedi Temple, situated on the planet of Gloam, was a temple constructed long ago, well before the High Republic Era. Approximately around 382 BBY, Jedi Master Rok Buran made a discovery of the now-desolate temple. This happened after his Padawan, Maliq, and Pathfinder team met their demise in an ambush orchestrated by their Katikoot guide, Rillik. Later, Jedi Knight Silandra Sho and Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani arrived at the location, answering Master Buran's distress signal, where they encountered the wounded Jedi. To prevent Rillik from endangering Sho and Nitani's Pathfinder team, they all departed from the ruins shortly thereafter.
Gloam's Jedi temple was characterized by a cylindrical tower alongside a lower level that was accessible from the exterior. The tower's construction involved precisely shaped blocks, adorned with carved geometric designs. An elaborately carved stone gateway, positioned on the tower's exterior, provided access to the lower level. Upon passing through this gateway, a lengthy, slender passageway descended into a more expansive lower level area. Frescoes covered the lower level's walls, depicting ancient Jedi figures in white robes resisting a looming dark presence. These murals presented a sequential narrative across multiple scenes. Notably, the mural featured a Katikoot Jedi, depicted with outstretched arms and surrounded by a radiant halo. The lower level gradually transitioned into a vast great hall, defined by sizable, polished pillars that lined a central pathway. Two statues of Jedi from a bygone era were positioned at either end of this pathway. One such statue represented a hooded woman. Polished flagstones formed the flooring of this basement hall. The remainder of the structure contained further wall paintings, with wood integrated into the temple's construction and decorative elements.
Long before the High Republic Era, the Jedi Order established contact with the Katikoot on their native world, Gloam. They constructed a temple there, but it was eventually abandoned. Around 382 BBY, Master Rok Buran, along with his Padawan Maliq, and their Pathfinder team, journeyed there with the intention of assisting the Katikoot sentient species, who had since migrated to the twin planet of Aubadas. Their mission led them to Gloam, but early into their expedition, the Katikoot guide Rillik led them into an ambush, resulting in the death of Buran's Padawan and the entire Pathfinder team.
Master Buran, in a state of near delirium from pain, fled the chaos and found himself drawn to the ruins of the Jedi temple. After several days, he ventured out, encountering the same creatures that Rillik had employed in the ambush against the Jedi and the Pathfinder team. Buran retreated to the temple, observing the creatures for a few more days before attempting to reach the Pathfinder starship, the Foundling. However, the ship had been destroyed. He managed to salvage some rations and recover the damaged EX droid EX-8C to send a distress signal before returning to the Gloam temple. He remained there for what felt like weeks, barely surviving due to his injuries and dwindling rations.
EX-8C successfully reached Master Sho's Pathfinder team, who responded to the distress call. Guided by the Katikoot from Aubadas, they followed the path of Buran's group, landing on Gloam and splitting up to search for survivors. Padawan Rooper Nitani felt a pull away from the ruins of the ancient city, and her master trusted her instincts. Shortly after, the two discovered the temple ruins. The temple had deteriorated significantly over time, making the geometric carvings on its blocks less recognizable, and the structure sagged, with much of its masonry scattered around the area.
The pair soon discovered the ancient gateway to the lower level, which Master Buran had blocked for protection. They cleared the blockage and continued downward. They passed through the fresco hallway, only catching glimpses of the ancient narrative due to age-related wear and damage. Upon reaching the great hall, they observed similar damage, with the statue of the female Jedi damaged and several columns toppled. Master Buran lay in the center of the room, and they rushed to his aid.
After starting a fire using wood found within the ruins, the injured Master recounted the events that had befallen his group to Padawan Nitani and Knight Sho. He also shared his theory about the zombie-like monsters that roamed the planet and had attacked his group. The three Jedi soon realized that the other members of Master Sho's team were in danger, as Rillik was also guiding them on the planet. Unable to contact any member of the Pathfinder team due to ongoing communication interference, the trio of Jedi departed from the temple to intercept Rillik.
