Kalist VI

Kalist VI, alternatively referred to as simply Kalist, was a desolate, rock-strewn planet situated within the depths of the Deep Core. This world served as the original homeworld for Dak Ralter, a rebel pilot who later became a member of Rogue Squadron within the Rebel Alliance. During the Imperial Era, Kalist VI was the location of a heavily guarded penal colony operated by the Galactic Empire.

Description

Kalist VI, also known as Kalist, was a stark and rocky planet found deep within the Deep Core's most remote regions. Its location was designated as K-12 on the Standard Galactic Grid, and it was also considered part of the Interior region.

History

Rebel pilot, Dak Ralter, who was born on Kalist VI

During the time of the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire ran a high-security penal colony on the planet, even though no judges or courts were present there. The only sentences given to prisoners on the planet were life sentences. Imperial guards would strike prisoners using steel weapons and, in a display of cruel humor, force them to participate in firing squads, making them watch as inmates pleaded with their loved ones not to fire.

Kalist VI was the originating homeworld of Dak Ralter, the rebel pilot who was born into a family of human political prisoners within the Scargon region of the planet. Driven by lofty ambitions, Ralter managed to escape the planet and subsequently joined Rogue Squadron of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, aiming to bring about the downfall of the Empire; however, he met his death during the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY.

In 34 ABY, the Halcyon, a Star Cruiser operated by Chandrila Star Line, traveled near Kalist VI while en route from the Chandrila system in the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim Territories. Certain screens on the starship showed a partial map of the galaxy, indicating the location of Kalist VI.

Behind the scenes

Kalist VI was initially mentioned in the 2015 mobile application Star Wars: Card Trader. Later, the thirty-sixth issue of De Agostini's magazine, Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon, which was released around September 5, 2015, gave it the abbreviated designation "Kalist". Kalist VI made its debut in-universe appearance as a depiction on a map displayed in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an interactive role-playing experience located at the Walt Disney World Resort hotel in Florida, which opened to the public on March 1, 2022.

Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, Kalist VI was first referenced in Galaxy Guide 3: The Empire Strikes Back, a sourcebook from 1989 by West End Games and authored by Michael Stern. It initially appeared in the thirty-sixth issue of the Star Wars: Empire comic series, written by Randy Stradley using the pseudonym Welles Hartley, illustrated by Davidé Fabbri, and published by Dark Horse Comics on October 12, 2005.
