Levinous, an individual holding significant equity in the Champalan Imperial Mineral Extraction Initiative, ascended to the position of Grand General within the Galactic Empire's Imperial Army. Because he remained on the planet of Coruscant, he was derisively referred to as a "holotable officer." Historian Beaumont Kin, in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, posited that Levinous's rank was solely attributable to his connections with Grand Vizier Mas Amedda. Following the supposed death of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine in 4 ABY, Levinous proclaimed himself Emperor, only to be overthrown and apprehended by his own forces.

Levinous was a man who possessed a substantial ownership stake in the Champalan Imperial Mineral Extraction Initiative. This entity, linked to the Galactic Empire, engaged in mining operations across the terrain of the planet Champala. The organization remitted a portion of its profits, alongside ongoing bribes, to Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, an influential Imperial figure and a native of Champala, with whom Levinous maintained connections.
Levinous attained the most esteemed rank within the Imperial Army, becoming a Grand General. However, he never ventured beyond the Imperial capital, Coruscant, and was not present in any sector where active military campaigns were underway. Consequently, he was often mockingly addressed as a "holotable officer."

Following the apparent death of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Levinous proclaimed himself Emperor while attempting to establish a power base on the planet Carida. Rolas, a fellow self-proclaimed Emperor and former admiral of the Empire's 14th Fleet, also sought to establish a base of operations on Carida. However, neither the former Grand General nor the former admiral inspired significant loyalty from their respective forces, leading to their swift overthrow and arrest by their own subordinates.
In 35 ABY, the historian Beaumont Kin referenced Levinous in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, suggesting that the Grand General's rank was solely a result of his connections to Amedda. He contrasted Levinous with more actively engaged Grand Generals like Ormeddon and cited his rank as an illustration of the Imperial Military's potentially counterproductive decision-making processes.
Levinous received mention in the 2024 reference book titled Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, authored by Dr. Chris Kempshall.
