Koboh Observatory
The Koboh Observatory, sometimes referred to as the Mountain Observatory or simply the Observatory, functioned as a research center. It was situated on the planet Koboh, found within the Outer Rim Territories, and stood as the most significant investment on the planet during the High Republic Era.
During the High Republic period, the observatory's construction served Jedi and Republic scientists in their comprehensive investigation of the enigmatic Koboh Abyss. Positioned near both the Basalt Forest and Prospector's Folly, the observatory was uniquely designed. Rather than being built on the mountain itself, a network of powerful repulsorlifts held numerous platforms aloft among the mountain peaks. The Grand Oculus, a massive observation point for studying the Abyss, formed the facility's core. This rotating oculus derived its power from the same Koboh matter source as the Forest Array. The grand oculus's larger size suggests that Republic scientists developed it as a prototype, leading to later, more compact and efficient designs.
A battle unfolded at the Observatory in 9 BBY, pitting the Bedlam Raiders against the Galactic Empire. During this conflict, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis and Bode Akuna ascended the Observatory to face the fallen Jedi Dagan Gera and secure the final navigational compass. This compass was crucial for navigating the Abyss and reaching the hidden world of Tanalorr. Ultimately, Kestis triumphed over Gera, killing him and successfully acquiring the compass.
